Stop sync with classic without losing assets in mobile

New Here ,
Aug 09, 2018 Aug 09, 2018

I mainly use Lightroom CC and Lightroom Mobile. Lately I installed LR Classic to be able to use features such as the Map module.

I have a complex structure in LR Mobile, since I use folders and albums to organise my images.

When I synced I noticed that in LR classic the hierarchy was flattened. This created a complicated mess which I don't want.

So I want to start with a clean slate in LR Classic. To do this I want to remove everything in classic while preserving it in mobile.

I tried switching syncing off in Classic for a test album and noticed that I lost that album in Mobile (and the photo's in it).

So here is my question: how can I stop syncing in LR Classic, or remove everything in LR Classic, without losing the files in LR Mobile?

Many thanks in advance!

Eric

Yes, once you have paused syncing, you can remove anything you like in Lightroom Classic. It won't affect Lightroom Mobile. Just don't turn on syncing again for this catalog. If you want to start syncing Lightroom Classic again, you must do it with a new catalog (which is a faster way of removing everything from Lightroom Classic anyhow).

If you pause syncing completely (click on the plate in the upper left corner), the images in the cloud should not be affected.

Hi JohnEls4,

Thanks for responding.

Indeed, you are correct, but can I then remove everything in LR Classic?

So if I understand correctly then I should:

  1. Pause syncing
  2. Remove the collection
  3. Create a new collection and configure it the way I want

Are these steps correct?

No, that will not work. As soon as you switch on syncing again, the collection you removed in Classic will be removed from Lightroom CC too.

You said: "So I want to start with a clean slate in LR Classic. To do this I want to remove everything in classic while preserving it in mobile."

To me everything means everything. In other words, you want to empty the Lightroom Classic catalog completely. That you can do, but in another way: trash the Lightroom Classic catalog and create a brand new one. Sync that new one to the cloud. That will work. Lightroom Classic will download everything from the cloud, nothing will get removed from it.

Please be patient with me here. I want to be absolutely sure I understand.

We're in sync with regard to everything and I take it that to "trash the collection" is to "delete the collection".
If so, should I delete the collection in Classic while syncing is on, or while syncing is paused?

You clearly don't understand. Please read my message more carefully. I never said 'trash the collection', I said 'trash the catalog'. I'm not talking about individual collections. I'm talking about your entire catalog. You said you want to remove everything in Lightroom Classic. That is not one single collection, but every collection and anything else that may not be synced.

JohanEls4,

I must admit that you my reading was not precise. I will make sure that I move the entire catalog to trash.

Thanks for your help!

That was very helpful as I wish to do the same/. Thank you

but when I first sync my lightroom classic to lightroom cc not only I lost the hierarchy but I could not find my photos in folders. Tried to "select all" from my collections to add it in folder but I found that it was duplicated my all photographs.

the question how can I add my photos to the folders trees?

Thank you for your help

Which folder trees are you talking about; Lightroom Classic or Lightroom CC? Folders in Lightroom Classic are real folders on your disk. You can move photos between folders by dragging and dropping them. Folders in Lightroom CC are not real folders, they are a way to organize albums. That means you must drag and drop albums, not individual images.

sorry I was not clear.  when I Sync my lightroom classic to my lightroom cc, all I got in the classic is in the collection section, but as I understand my photos are somewhere in my hard drive, this I could not found.

Select a photo, then choose 'Photo - Go to folder in Library'.

Just anywhere locally. Using the Creative Cloud folder is not needed and has no advantages.
