13.2 was a rocketship on my computer 64gb RAM 2 2tb M.2 drives. 13.3 and 13.3.1 are almost unusable. Switching from one photo to another in a shoot of about 1000 photos (Catalog has about 150k) takes 20 seconds or more. It was instant in 13.2. Exporting 100 JPGS take 5 times longer at least. Using things like the crop tool in the develop module is so laggy that it is almost impossible to use. It was like liquid glass in 13.2.
Please, fix. Not doing a whole summer like this. Don't make me switch editors.

Same here. The last two updates are painfully slow and I'm running a Mac Studio M1 Ultra with 64Gb of Ram with the catalog on a dedicated Raid drive. This has been one of the worse updates I have experienced in years. I cannot believe they even release something like this.

Evan Adobe states that the default value for the Camera RAW CACHE of 5 GB is way too small and to try with at least 20 GB. This effects performance in Develop Module.

It appears it takes a while for LR to get going. I guess you need to open the app and let it sit for 10 minutes before it will respond to any actions.

I'm going to add to the pile-on that 13.3.1 is painfully slow initiating and completing just about any operation I choose on my Mac Mini M2 running Sonoma 14.5.

13.4 is still doing the same thing. It's so frustrating not being able to actually wortk on this application for whatever reason. This is becoming untenable.

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post.

Also, as Develop module appears to have performance issues as well, can you post LrC /preferences/performance/
example:

I am having the same issue. 13.2 was super fast 13.3.1 is sio slow it's unusable. I have a fast PC . Tired reintsalling Lightroom. works ok for about 15 minutes then bogs down. I am thinking about falling back to 13.2 but I will loose 2 weeks of Edits.
I wish Adobe would say something , even better do something to fix this performance issue issue.

An expert tells me I can fall back to LR 13.2 and use my 13.3 LRCAT so I don't loose edits. He assured me 13.2 will read 13.3 Lrcat

I am pretty sure that is not true. There are significant changes in 13.3 that would make it unreadable in 13.2. I have no way to test it but I am very skeptical that that works
Copy link to clipboard

I can tell you that that is not true. You need to load whatever catalog you last used for the earlier version AND then re-import whatever photos are missing AND then re-edit any that you processed in the later version.

I just installed rel 13.4 of Lightroom which is supposed to have some performance improvements in it. My inital hour of use on 13.4 is it seems to be faster on a lot of commands than the last release of 13.3 but is still occasionsaly slow., like completing and saving masking operations. It seems to have slow period then fast periods of time
What are other folks finding for speed in 13.4

mine is not that slow, but export is much slower then 13.2. M1 PRO, SONOMA 14.5

Try resetting your preferences to see if that helps.

It was totally slow for me too. Exports sometimes took 10 minutes before the progress bar even appeared. I noticed that the processor load was always around 10 to 20 % for maybe 2 days. The funny thing is that it worked right after the update to 13.3. It was only after about 2 days that Lightroom became virtually unusable. But now it's almost ok again. It seems to me that Lightroom did some clean-up work in the background after the update, which took 1 to 2 days. That would explain the constant processor load. Now Lightroom is usually at 0% load when I'm not doing anything... So my tip is to just wait a little longer, maybe let Lightroom run overnight.
I have about 90,000 photos in Lightroom, on Windows with 64 GB RAM.
Best regards
Friedemann

One thing that might explain this is that if you sync a lot of images to the cloud that the update to 13.3 changed the sync mechanism. They did a complete overhaul (long overdue). This triggers a comlete reevaluation of the sync data between local and cloud and can take from 30 minutes to many hours to complete. While it is doing this, your computer will react quite slowly but this should be over when it is done doing this. During this process you won't see any feedback that it is doing this - no spinning arrows or somesuch - but it is doing it in the background. So this might explain why after first opening Classic after the update it is quite slow. Of course this explanation only works if you actually sycn from classic to and from the cloud.

Lightroom 13.3.1 waaaaay too slow. What happen, from previous version to this new one, with no settings changes, same catalogs, same computer, same OS (Sonoma 14.5), same everything, all the suggestions here are applied, no syncs, no difference from before and now is just too slow. needs to be fixed !

I am still having the same issue. I posted about this earlier in a thread called "Long delays when interacting with images in Library module" where it was also mentioned that it might need to do some housekeeping first. It's been open plenty long since then, and I'm still often getting delays of up to half a minute when adding photos to target collection with the "B" shortcut.
I've never had this happen like this on v13.2.
