Target Collection got deselected, now can't find Quick collection either -where are selected images?

I started using collections recently and made a Collection called CATALOG and selected it as the target collection. I spent several days culling photographs for a CATALOG project and using "B" to add to the target CATALOG collection. A few days later, I noticed that the option on hovering over the dot had changed to "add to Quick Collection" instead of Add to CATALOG collection. I didn't think much of it at the time (unfortunately.)

Today, I noticed that none of the recent images are in the CATALOG collection and  the CATALOG collection was no longer set as the target (no + sign after it). (I didn't change that.) I looked for the QUICK collection but couldn't find that either, so I have no idea where the images I selected and added to the QUICK catalog are.

Looking for any suggestions!

Can you clarify which version of Lightroom you are using? There is no longer any version called "Lightroom CC", there is Lightroom desktop and there is Lightroom Classic. Lightroom desktop has Albums (Lr icon in the Dock/Taskbar), Lightroom Classic (LrC icon) has "Collections". Which version are you using? The version number would help determine this.

UPDATE: I contacted Adobe support, who showed me that Quick Collections was still there under the Catalog Tab. So, I found the images I had selected and moved them, which was great.

However, a question remains about how my target collection was changed from the collection I am working on, back to Quick collection.

Adobe support told me that the target collection defaults back to Quick collection after selecting an image for the target collection.  That doesn't make any sense to me. I just tested it, and that does not seem to be true. I closed and reopened Lightroom, and my target collection has not changed.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

I can only suggest-

1) A glitch (unexpected result), or corruption of some sort in your catalog.

2) You may have toggled the Target Collection back to the Quick Collection by clicking on the menu item [Set as Target Collection] a second time- which reverts the 'target' to the Quick Collection.

Unlikely that you used KB shortcut [Ctrl+ Alt + Shift + B]

Thanks Rob, all of the above are possible, probably not the latter. 🙂 In any case, I am a happy convert to using Collections! I just wish I had taken the time to learn this feature years ago!
