Attempting to install Adobe Lightroom 5 on a new computer, but it does't seem to accept my serial number.
I was finally able to install Adobe Lightroom 5. I believe it was conflicting with creative cloud. I completely removed creative cloud using the cc cleaner tool. And then removed /Library/Application Support/Adobe. Afterward I was given a different prompt when Lightroom 5 started. It asked for a serial number and I was able to enter it, and start Lightroom.

More information would be appreciated.
Have you used v5 before?
Is the v5 and 'Upgrade" version?
What are the exact error messages you get?
Do not post your serial number here, but does the serial number start with 1160 and does it contain 24 numbers?

I've used v5 before. I'm installing it on a new computer. The number begins with 1160. It contains 24 numbers. If I login to my Adobe account, and click on products, it shows up there. I purchased this through Walmart several years ago, and then had a digital download link that is no longer active. When I install v5 from the adobe web site and attempt to enter the serial number I get the "The serial number you entered is invalid" error. I spoke with someone with customer service and he said to leave a message in the forums.

Do you still have the package LR 5 came in and it is an upgrade version?
Did you use LR before you bought LR 5, IE a previous version of LR?

The crucial question now is- as asked by JSM:
"Did you use LR before you bought LR 5, IE a previous version of LR? "
Because if you had v1 v2 v3 or v4 and you purchased an "upgrade" to v5, then you will need TWO serial numbers. You will need the Serial number for the earlier version (1,2,3,or 4) AND the serial Number for v5.
And can you do a screen-clip of the error message when Lightroom refuses your entry of the serial number?

I purchased an electronic copy from Walmart and they provided a serial number and download link that is unfortunately no longer available. This was not an upgrade. I only ever purchased Lightroom 5. When I sign into adobe I can see my purchases and my purchase of Lightroom 5 shows up.

I had the same issue when trying to install Lightroom 5.7.1 on macOS 10.13.1. I got my official key off of accounts.adobe.com and tried to enter it into Lightroom and was told my key was incorrect.
The version I was trying to install was downloaded from:
http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/LTRM/5_7_1/osx10/Lightroom_5_CCM_LS11.dmg
That looked like the most legitimate source.
However, I contacted Adobe support and was told I should download this version:
http://prodesigntools.com/trials3/AdobeProducts/LTRM/5/osx10/Lightroom_5_LS11.dmg
Supposedly ProDesignTools is an official Adobe partner and provides download links to some of their older versions. I'm not sure why, but the installer from ProDesignTools installs the same version of Lightroom, but it works with my key. It appears that the official Adobe download version launches a different app to perform the licensing, whereas the version form ProDesignTools asks for your key from within Lightroom itself. That may explain the extra "CCM" in the name of the installer file.
Regardless of the reason, anyone else looking to license Lightroom 5.7.1 on macOS should give the ProDesignTools link a try. Its installer is disctinctive because it does not have "CCM" in the name.
For those who are curious, the SHA256 hash for the ProDesignTools download is 155a91e2c90927a05ccaa244a99fed4784fa7cf26d08c634f5f111629f6b0418.

Hello I have the same stupid error message and tried out everything what I found in the forum and not Adobe forums nothing helps.
I bought the Version 5 Lightroom in 2014 December and activated it on an older Mac and after 2 years on another one but I removed everything on this Mac. Deactivation was not possible if someone is asking.
Last week I bought a new Mac (Version Sierra 10.12.6) and wanted to install Lightroom 5 (Version 5.7.1 Build 994773). That was working fine but if I started the Activation process I got this error.
The serial number you entered is invalid. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact Customer Support.
I typed it 10 times and copied it 10 times from my Adobe Account everytime the same stupid error. So why is the activation not possible?
When I installed Lightroom 5 on the second Mac 2 years ago it was working fine. I think Adobe is doing this so that normal people will buy a newer version so that the got the money.
I reinstalled Lightroom a few times and used the Cleanup tool from adobe and deleted everything in my folders.
Any suggestions?
