I got a new computer...I'm going from mac to mac...same OS I put my catalog file on an external disk so my new computer would read it.I don't have any of my publish services so am I supposed to have to reinstall them? I also don't have any of my export presets...and thats all I've gotten to up to this point...I don't really want to do anything for sake of messing something up if its really a pretty easy fix.

The trick to move to another Mac is to restore from a time machine backup or directly from your old machine. This brings over all the Lightroom preferences and publish services. You can also do that manually by copying over all the preference files that Lightroom generates and the plugins to your new computer. This is pretty complex as there are so many places this stuff is stored. See here for example: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/lightroom-classic-file-locations/

Ok cool...so is it too late to go back and do that...I do have my cat file on an external disk...my end goal really is going to be that I want both catalogs on each computer, my laptop and desktop to act as the same...the cat file goes with me on the external drive..and the catalog uses files that are attached if necessary

I think if you just install the correct plugins, the export services setup should travel with the catalog file. You might have to reautheticate an export plugin on the new machine if it is for an online service (i.e. smug mug, flickr, etc.) but I think the rest of the settings should transfer with the catalog.

Ok so basically what your saying is if all I did was move the cat file...there are some other things in that folder that has to do with lightroom and such too but mostly its my cat files that I use...there are still some LR Preferences left on my old computer! Is that true for photoshop too? and Illustrator...and InDesign?

You just need to install the same plugins on the new machine that you have on the other. This should allow the publish service things to work on the new machine the same as it does on the old. You might need to log on again if these are online publish services but the publish folders should come along.
