Unexpected Error Opening Catalog

New Here ,
Oct 21, 2017 Oct 21, 2017

I merged my LR catalogs and lost my develop edit history. I deleted my previous catalogs but have now recovered them. However when I try to open the old catalog files I get the message 'unexpected error opening catalog'. How do I recover my old catalog and restore my edit history?

Hi Sahil or an other expert!

I have Windows 10 Fall Creator update.  Updated about 10.nov.2017. After updateing my Lightroom (6.12) stopped to work. I can´t open my Lightroom. If I try I get this information:

I have used button "Choose a Different Catalog" After this I get a new box:

So, "Choose a Different Catalog". Where is it ? I didn`t find different catalog. I just finded Lightroom Catalog.lrcat  and it doesn`t work.

Next I tried: Create a New Catalog"-button. Thank you, but how does it work? What am I force to do?

I have tried advices as down mentioned.

Solutions

Solution 1: Install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable 2012

  • Right-click on the Lightroom.exe file.
  • Choose Run as administrator.

  • Right-click on that folder.
  • Choose Properties > Security > Edit.
  • Select your user name in the Group or user names section. and click Full Control under Permissions.
  • Click Apply, then click OK out of all the dialog boxes.

Thanks for solutions, but these don`t work.

I realy need advices but simple and easy, please. (I am not an engineer)

Hi Sahil!

Thank you for question!

First I upgraded Lightroom (upgraded 17.7.2017) and after this Windows 10 (about 10.11.2017).

Once you click on Create a new Catalog, you'll be prompted to give a name for the new catalog and Lightroom will open up with the new catalog. And the default location of your New catalog is C:\Users\Username\Pictures\Lightroom

Thanks Sahil!

I tried to get a new catalog as you told me to do, but I wasn`t succeed. I tried different names for ex.

Lightroom Catalog 2.lrcat.

So, what should I do next?

As you can see there isn`t any new catalog. Only the old one, which doesn`t work.

Have a nice day.

Try giving the new catalog a name such as 'Test'
