Workflow -- Shooting/Editing on the road

New Here ,
Mar 23, 2018 Mar 23, 2018

I need a solution for moving edited photos from my MacBook to my desktop after shooting and editing on the road.  I know I can export the edited photos; but want to somehow move the catalog and photos to my desktop when I return home.  I'm using Lightroom CC Classic on both desktop and laptop.  Thank you.

Don't export the photos, export them as catalog and then use 'Import from Another Catalog' on the other computer. For more details see: https://www.slrlounge.com/270206-2/

I keep getting an error message that says the catalog g I’m importing is an invalid format.  Anyone with any ideas?  Both my MacBook and iMac are running latest versions of Lightroom classic.

Can you open Lightroom on both computers and confirm the Version number of Lightroom on both?  Check from the Menu: Help>System Info.

Could you also do "Export as Catalog" (include negative files) to an external usb drive from the MacBook, then plug that drive into the iMac, and double-click on the exported catalog to see if it will open from the external drive.

Thank you.  I am not seeing export as catalog function.  I have 5 folders that I shot on location (named by date as I do at home).  It seems that export as catalog function requires selection of photos ?

Correct, you first highlight all the images that you want to include in the new Catalog.

They can be found for highlighting by whatever means - folder based or collection, filter etc. Whatever Collections and Folders those images feature in, will get included even when not the context in which you were viewing those images when you highlighted them.

Are you sure you've selected that catalog file (.lrcat extension)? I've seen people select the 'previews.lrdata' and that does indeed give you such an error dialog.

Yes and have tried multiple times, even renaming catalog so different than my main catalog.  I’ve also tried moving all to my external drive.  This is really maddening and I’m at a loss for what to do.  Any other suggestions?

Ok so I now have successfully exported catalog and moved it to my desktop on iMac.  Still get error message when trying to import.  I also confirmed that I can open this new catalog on the imac with no issues.  any other suggestions would be appreciated.  im wondering if this is an issue that Adobe should be aware of and needs to be addressed?

thanks.

The problem with these things is that they need to be reproducible. I always use this workflow when on the road and I have no issues at all.
