In Lightroom, please "remember" the currently select images in each folder as I move back and forth. This would be such a time saver!

How do you imagine this to work regarding the active image selection?

Do you expect the image selection to change, each time you navigate to a different folder? That would create some difficulties, e.g., when you want to create a temporary set of selected images that comprises images from different folders.

It would be nice if lightroom could remember which image i was viewing last when I navigate back to a folder instead of starting with the first image in the folder. I frequently go back and forth between folders and collections and I would like to go back to the same image that I was viewing before I navigated away from the folder instead of starting from the beginning.

it would also be nice to be able define a representative "cover"-picture for each folder or collection.

When returning to a previously worked folder, it would be useful to return directly to where one left off (i.e. the last-worked image). rather than being forced to start at the first image. When processing a large shoot and briefly switching to another folder, it is annoying, when returning to the original folder, to have to scroll/page through all the images to get back to where one left off.

Good idea.

In the mean time,

Gazoo remembers the complement of photos selected in each source (whether folder or collection...), for use in conjunction with back/forward navigation.

This plugin fixes it "right" (works in the background - re-selects previous photos when you switch folders and/or collections..).

Unexpectedly i found out that with Lightroom 5.6 it is possible to define a title image for a collection (seems not to be possible with lightroom 5.4).
Thanks Adobe for implementing this feature (even if I never read about it and just found it by chance)

seems plausible that it is called "use as cover photo" in english (in german it is called "als Titelbild verwenden"):
what it does: If you move your mouse over your collections you see a picture in the navigator area top left. This picture was always the first image of your collection. So in my case it often was a shot of the setup or of the colerchecker passport and not representative of the shooting/colletion.
Using the "use as cover photo" command you can now determine which image is shown in the navigator area when you move your mouse over the collection list. (note: it does NOT work with smart collections)

Ah - thanks Arnold. Not quite the same as restoring previous photo selections when returning to previous photo source, but still good to know.

Am I right or did something unexpectedly happen to my catalog?
This option "use as cover photo" does not exist in Lightroom 5.7 any more... :(

I blows my mind that this feature is not yet in Lightroom. Really? Expect the user to remember which image they were last working on in every catalog. Yes, that is a brilliant idea (heavy sarcasm).

I want this! Is there any alternative plugin that fixes this? Rob Cole's one seems to have disappeared.

Unfortunately, we recently learned that Rob passed away suddenly two years ago, and his plugins became unavailable soon after: http://regex.info/blog/2017-01-18/2765

You might check out my Any Source plugin.  It provides "back" and "forward" commands that keep a history of previous sources, selections, and filter settings, so you can easily switch back and forth between them.

I use and highly recommend Any Source.  I set shortcut keys to launch it, and use it dozens of times an hour.

I have no affiliation with the author.  I'm an Aperture specialist moving several large databases to Lightroom.

When I change from folder A to folder B then back to folder A, the first image in folder A is alway selected. Similarly, filter settings should not be lost. I think it would be much better if it worked like this...In folder A, I have image 23 selected. I switch to folder B. Then I switch back to folder A and image 23 is still selected (and the filters are the way I left them in folder A instead of being cleared).

Filter settings will be retained if you click the little lock in the right corner of the filter bar.

My clunky workflow has a project with 14k of my 123k images in a folder with sub-folders.

My reference spreadsheet has tabs corresponding to the sub-folders.  My notes, hyperlinks, etc. are lines within each tab, itemized by image file name.

So when I flip between and among LR folders, I’m always sitting on the first image.  Now I need to use the filter to isolate the image file name, cancel the filter, and proceed with my analysis with a frown and muttered bad-words.

What I want is to return to the last image selected in that folder.
Please.
