P: Vertical spliting of the Left Column in the Library Module

Explorer ,
Dec 03, 2023 Dec 03, 2023

Hi everyone,

In the Library module, it would be absolutely fantastic to be able to vertically split the Left Column.

It would allow us to display at the same time specific Folders & the Collections in order to move easily a folder to a specific Sub Collection.

What is your feeling about my proposal ?

Laurent

I second. Feels like a lot of scrolling to get from the library to collections. It would be handy to have the two next to each other. If those columns could be collapsible, even better!

I would agree that there may be some room for increased flexibility in how interface panels work. But we are not always dependent on having everything visible together; sooner or later that will not be feasible in any case.

Another method for doing this particular task is to set a chosen Collection as current "target". Now any image seen in any folder or other collection or smart collection can be granted membership in this by a simple keystroke B. Without needing to have the listing of that Collection visible for dragging into.

As another technique, when you want to switch between recently viewed folders or collections, that can be done using the 'recent sources' drop down menu at the top left of filmstrip - without needing to have the full listing of these views and collections currently visible. Also without needing to scroll or hunt around within such listings, to re-locate the same entry.

Thanks Richard for your proposals!

Defining a Collection as a Target is a partial solution to my problem, because you can only define as a Target a Collection and not a Collection Set and you can only send Pictures (not a complete Folder) to the Targeted Collection

Moreover when I organize my Folders into Collections, I usually create Collections by Themes and my Folders are chronologically ordered.

So that would suppose that:

  1. I should first copy the Name of my Folder,
  2. scroll down in the Collection section,
  3. Create a Collection (by pasting the name of the Folder) in the Collection Set corresponding to my Theme,
  4. Define this Collection as a target,
  5. scroll up to come back to my Folder,
  6. Select all the pictures of the Folder,
  7. Add the picture to the Targeted Collection
  8. scroll up to come back to the next Folder
  9. & start again…

I think it should be easier to Vertically split the left Panel…
