Help - My Lightroom Classic and Photoshop are SOOOO slow

I am using Lightroom Classic and Photoshop and they are soooo slow.  I'm looking at the grinding wheel of death with every click of the mouse.  What is going on and how do I fix this?  Editing is taking FOREVER!

They will crash and shot down at times too.

Operating system and version number

The full text of any error message (s)

What you were doing when the problem occurred

Screenshots of the problem and/or error messages

Computer hardware, such as CPU; GPU; the amount of RAM; etc
