Import photos from photomechanic

New Here ,
Oct 18, 2017 Oct 18, 2017

Hello,

I having troubles with the import of photos from photomechanic (version 5) to Lr.

I use Win10 and Lr CC.

After having tagged photos in PhotoMechanic, I want to drag and drop photos from that application to the library module of Lightroom CC in order to import them to Lightroom but it seems that Lr doesn't allow to drop photos in it.

I noticed that it is also impossible to drop photos after having dragged photos from any folders in the windows explorer --> Lightroom doesn't not allow to drop photos in order to import them to lightroom.

How can I solve the problem ?

thanks.

Either drop them into Libary's grid - it must be the grid itself - or just use LR's standard File > Import.

Are you sure PM supports drag and drop on Windows? For example, LR does respond to dropping, but on Windows you can't drag to other apps from LR.

Hello,

The drop doesn't work into the library's grid.

Yes PM supports drag and drop on windows. You can, for example, drag and drop photos from PM to any windows folders. I have tested it.

But, for example, it is impossible to drag and drop photos from the windows explorer to Lr ...
So it makes me think that there is problem with Lr with the drag and drop functionality (perhaps due to Win 10 ? ...)

It works OK for me from a folder. For example if I go to a folder in Windows Explorer and select six images, I can then drag and drop them on to the Lr desktop icon. Lightroom launches with the import dialog and six images selected and all others in the folder grayed out.

As I asked before, are you sure PM supports drag and drop on Windows?

For drag and drop to work, the sending app has to support dragging (LR doesn't on Windows) and the receiving app (LR) has to understand dropping, which it does if you drop into the grid.

Hello,

I dragged and dropped Photos from PM to the desktop and it works: Photos are well dropped on the windows desktop (The mouse icône changes to a « + » when on the desktop) but When i try to drop the Photos onto the Lr grid module, the mouse changes to a circle « stop «  icon. And so it makes me think the issue is with Lr and not PM. It is Lr that doesn’t not understand dropping.

LR Windows does indeed support drag-and-drop. The problem could be that you're running LR as administrator, which produces the exact symptoms you're seeing.  See this post for how to check that: Re: Importieren von spezifischen Dateitypen. When a program is running as administrator, Windows prevent drag-and-drop into the program.

Are you using the new Lightroom CC (mobile)? or Lightroom CC Classic?

I can drag and drop with the traditional desktop app, but not with the new mobile-centric CC.  One of several reasons the new Lightroom is a complete waste of time and development resources imo.. a dumbed down version with fewer features that represents one more step on the inexorable march toward the infernal "cloud".

Anyway, if you're on the photography plan, both versions are included.  Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time, use "classic" Lightroom.
