sfntread library error

New Here ,
Nov 13, 2017 Nov 13, 2017

I keep getting this error when switching to book module

I am running Lr classic version 7.0.1 on windows 10

I have tried resetting preferences, reloading the software and rebooting the computer - all with no success

All other modules work fine

Unable to use book module at all

I have used it extensively in the past prior to the latest upgrade to Lr Classic

Any ideas?

One answer I could trust would be from Victoria Bampton (aka the Lightroom Queen)

See the post at- https://www.lightroomforums.net/threads/error-opening-book-module-in-lr-5-2.20064/

Thanks wobrtc

I made a backup copy of all fonts in c:\windows\fonts and then deleted all except protected system fonts (windows wont allow these to be deleted).  I also reset the default font settings after this (not sure if this is needed)

restarted windows

Book module seems to be working fine now

I am not sure if there will be any other issues due to fonts being deleted.

I will update here after testing some more

Unfortunately the same error occurred again and I have had to repeat the exercise of deleting fonts and rebooting to get it to work again!

Any more suggestions?

Sorry Jim, my level of knowledge does not have any other suggestions.

but did you restore all your fonts?

Did you try Victoria's suggestion- "....and add back a few at a time until LR trips over it."

I read somewhere else on this forum that deleting Cache and preferences at

C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom

would solve this problem and this worked for me.  The Appdata folder is hidden by default I think, so you have to go to file manager settings and opt to see hidden folders.  I renamed the Cache folder and preferences file, rather than deleting so that I could put them back if needed.

Deleting the fonts file helped initially, but then stopped working

I have no idea why these fixes work!  Or why the issue suddenly started.

I have no idea why these fixes work!

And neither do many of us "users".

As another forum guru often says- "...a sprinkle of fairy dust....reset preferences..."

I hope it continues working for you.

Iwas having the sfntread library error problem.

I tried the starting LR with shift-alt and reset preferences but no improvement.

Now I have gone to Jim's solution. I did delete both the Cache amnd Preferences files from the locationat

C:\Users\{user}\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom

I went to Adobe Creative Cloud to Update Lightroom and I have managed to enter the Book module without the pop up error message!

Now I have to solve the catalog problem: all my develop work has reset to zero and photos from Library do not load in thwe main screen in develop mode.

Cheers Mark

Hi Mark

Do you just need to select the correct catalog under edit/preferences/general ?

Best wishes

Hi Jim

Firstly thanks for the very useful tip.

Secondly, yes I needed to find an older catalog that had not been decimated and then i got everything backapart from last week's work. I upgraded the Version to Version 4 and touch wood, everything seems to be working fine - atthe moment!

Cheers

Mark
