Still can't move photos to another folder in Lightroom 6.8 for Mac

I suddenly lost the ability to move photos from one folder to another via drag and drop (and I don't think there's another method). I've reviewed a couple of posts on this topic and none of the solutions work. So far, I have tried using shift-option to reset the preferences. I've deleted the preferences file and restarted my Mac (numerous times). (All that has done is give me those annoying first-time startup messages.) I've also optimized my catalog. I've checked permissions and I have read and write permissions to both of the folders in question. I've run Disk First Aid and found no problems. But moving photos does not work.

I had this trouble a week or so ago, went on vacation, and when I returned, I was able to move one set of photos one time. After that, I lost the capability again. I get no error message; just nothing happens.

System: iMac 27 inch, El Capitan, 10.11.6. Lightroom 6.8.

You have it almost correct!

After you make the multiple selection of several files, release the mouse buttons, then Click and hold the left-mouse button with the cursor exactly in the middle of one of the selected images and drag the mouse cursor onto the new folder location that will change tone slightly to indicate it is the destination.

You will see the cursor change to look like multiple photos as you drag it onto the folder panel.

The "Click and Hold" must happen to drag all the photos.

A sing

Try, or make sure to not have a collection selected/highlighted before moving.

Why can't you?

What are the exact steps you are using? What happens at that time? Please describe in detail.

Is there an error message? If so, please quote the exact complete unedited word-for-word verbatim error message.

I go to the folder containing the photos I want to move. I click on the first photo in the series I want to move, then shift-click on the last photo, to highlight the series, and drag them to the destination folder. There are no error messages; just nothing happens. On the occasions where it has worked, there's a plus sign that appears as I'm dragging them, but when it doesn't work, there's nothing. After reading these forums, I'm careful not to select the edges of the photos, but it makes no difference where in the photo I select it.

While I'm describing attempting to move a series of photos, which is what I usually want to do, I've also tried just selecting one photo and dragging it, but I have the same problem. It doesn't move, no error messages, and it stays selected.

Please post a (full-screen LR) screen-capture with the selected images right before you are going to try to move.

Okay. Screen shot is below. Weirdly, it worked that time. If I click, shift-click, and drag all in one motion, it doesn't work. It seems to want me to click, shift-click, and then release the mouse before clicking again to drag them. Sometimes when I do that, though, I lose the selection, and only end up with one photo selected. It doesn't seem to be consistent in its behavior.

The "Click and Hold" must happen to drag all the photos.

A single Click once on the central image in a photo thumbnail in a multiple selection will not de-select photos (it just makes that photo the 'most' selected preview with the brightest border) but if you click on a Border you will de-select all the other files.
