Hi
I am suddenly getting this alert on my photos. Some are edited but some are raw with no edits. I did import images form bridge into lightroom that had keywords. could that be it.
I do all my editing through lightroom then into photoshop. I do use some plug ins through photoshop though. Today at the end of editing an image (all in lightroom and photoshop with plugins used) I got this message on a photo. This image was never imported to bridge, only lightroom. I am new to lightroom and I am unsure what to do. I have 'automatically write changes into xmp' checked. The plugins I use are topaz, curvemeister, piccure, ON1 and PPW. Any help would really be appreciated. I don't know wether to import overwrite or ignore. To make it even worse I am unsure if it consistent or different images are identified on different days. Many thanks, Julie
Julienne Kost describes clearly how Lightroom and Bridge write changes to the XMP files. Hope this is helpful.
Note: The settings for the Master file are saved in the Lightroom catalog as well, but can also be saved within the original DNG file (or in a sidecar file if working with proprietary raw files) if, in Catalog Settings > Metadata “Automatically Write Changes to XMP” is enabled and/or if Metadata > Save Metadata to Files is applied to files

Not sure what you mean by imported images from Bridge? Are your image files on your internal hard drive or an external device? Are you Adding or Copying when you import?
Did you lose edits on images that you worked on outside of Lightroom?
Did you use the 'Edit In' Command from within Lightroom?
If you are new to Lightroom you may want to consider changing your workflow to let Lightroom manage your edits going forward. That simply means you will import to Lightroom first, then Edit In other applications and when you close the file your changes will be saved and visible in Lightroom.
Try a test... the next time you get the message asking whether to overwrite or ignore, open your Metadata panel, look at the data and choose to import from disk... take a look at what (if anything) changed.

Hi
thanks for the reply.
I used to use bridge and photoshop but at the beginning of this year started using lightroom.
I have added when importing into lightroom.
I always use the edit in command from lightroom since starting to use it and don't do anything to my phots outside of lightroom.
I am not sure what I am losing but I will do some experiments
I did test some NEF files like you suggested. the star rating were different. I will check on a few others that I have edited as well. Am I right in thinking the metadata and the edits in photoshop are not the same thing? T
the metadata is just keywords and titles and captions etc?

To save settings in JPEG, PSD and TIFF files, check “Include Develop settings in Metadata inside JPEG, TIFF and PSD files” in Catalog Settings > Metadata.
