Difference between Wowza and FMS: when streaming MPEG-2Ts

Guest

Hi

I am working on streaming TV channels on LAN. I found the following use case for Flash Media server

Satellite  ---> DVB-S(catching the sattelite signals) --->  video capture card (convert signal in raw format) ---> FMLE (Encode signals) ---> FMS

a) My first question is that whether I can give MPEG-2 TS stream directly to FMS.

b) Secondly, what's the difference in use case when I use Wowza server. Can we give Wowza the MPEG-2TS stream directly.

Which one is better option for carrying out the task.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Regards

To answer your questions:

a) My first question is that whether I can give MPEG-2 TS stream directly to FMS

     - As of now answer is NO - you have to take the way which you have mentioned: Satellite  ---> DVB-S(catching the sattelite signals) --->  video capture card (convert signal in raw format) ---> FMLE (Encode signals) ---> FMS

b) I am not sure - you can check their product page to get confirmation.

As far as better option - again i think only person who has used both options and tried them out at different performance levels can comment.

Thank you very much for your prompt response. I got some more question.

In response to question (a), If I have to follow the use case

Satellite  ---> DVB-S(catching the sattelite signals) --->  video  capture card (convert signal in raw format) ---> FMLE (Encode  signals) ---> FMS

Then is it possible that I get the signal from my DVB-S card and then use some software encoder to convert the MPEG-2TS stream in raw format?

If answer is yes, then can you please tell me some suitable software encoder. Also kindly tell me that how can I send this converted raw format signals to FMLE?

Thank you again for your help.

Regards

Thanks alot for your guidance.

I just want to confirm that is it possible that instead of using hardware video capture card, I encode the signals, recieved by DVB-S card, into raw format through some software. And then I give these encoded signals to FMLE.

If it is possible then please tell me the encoder software.

I would recommend you to put up your last query related to Software encoder on FMLE forum : http://forums.adobe.com/community/flash/flash_media_live_encoder - experts down there might have better idea about various encoders.

Oh my God SE thank you for that post! In particular the satelliteguys!

The answer is in there Tahir!!

You need TSreader which can decode the stream into RAW video and then you can grab it with FMLE.

Actually I'm not too sure how it can be grabbed by FMLE after it's decoded... I haven't tested it myself you see

Alternatively I'm enquiring about the following product, it seems to do the job much better:
