Streaming live video to my website

Hey all, I have Flash media server, flash media live encoder, and flash cs5. I'm gonna be using flash media live encoder to stream my desktop and webcam to my website. My current host (host gator) doesn't have rtmp enabled on their web hosting plan, only on their dedicated and vps hosting. My question is do I need to switch hosts to one that has rtmp enabled so I can stream to my website for people to view?

Also, can I embed this stream into another part of my site?

So if you want to stream via FMLE, you check the "Stream to Flash Media Server". For FMS URL: you need to put "rtmp://mysite.com/live" where mysite.com is domain name of your hosted FMS meaning when you connect using rtmp://mysite.com/live it should connect to your Flash Media Server.

Stream: you can put any stream name of your choice provided your hosted FMS Provider is ok with it. Its basically name for the published stream

You say you have Flash Media Server. Where do you have it installed?

FMS is separate from your webhosting. Typically, you will either have FMS installed on your own dedicated hardware, or you'll rent shared FMS hosting from an FMS hosting provider. You can leave your webhosting with hostgator, and just have your FMS hosting elsewhere.

Oh, I have it installed on my desktop. So I need to find a hosting site with FMS installed on their webserver.. this means I don't need FMS on my desktop.. right?

Also, do you have any recommendations for a FMS host?

Yes if you are hosting it somewhere else like how JayCharles said - you don't need it on your desktop. However choice is yours - like how JayCharles said - it can be either your desktop or any other server under your control, or go with any hosted service provider.

Thank you. So if I wanted to stream it to a host site from flash media live encoder.. I would set the (Stream to flash Server) FMS URL to: rtmp://mysite.com/live

?

And then the option that says "Stream:" I would set that to what my host tells me what to put?
