P: Drag duplicate layer to another document doesn't work anymore

Explorador ,
Jul 21, 2020 Jul 21, 2020

Dragging a duplicate layer from one document to another doesn't switch to the document where you want to drop the duplicate layer. Now you have to copy the desired layer, switch to the document where you want to layer dropped and paste it in.

Again I say that every update seems to create more problems

I have this same issue on PC.  These fundamental backwards steps occur way too frequently.

just a heads-up, a few versions back they implemented another way to copy layers from one doc to another.

in your layers panel select the layer or layers you want to copy, hit cmd/ctrl-c, then go to your target doc and paste.

for your issue, and I could be wrong here, don't you need to wait until the tab becomes active first before dropping the layer onto it?

Thanks!  Yes, you do have to wait.  But pausing above the tab never activates the new document in this 21.2.1 version.  It used to.  And this is the issue.  If you have the "target document" open in a separate window, you can drag and drop as desired.  But that's not what we want šŸ™‚  We just want it to work the way it did before updating šŸ™‚

Dommage que se soit les clients qui doivent vous signaler ce types de bogue !

I did find a temporary workaround on accident... If you hold down both the left and right mouse buttons and drag from the layers tab then it works as expected but that is too much work... lol... If you are one of those Mac one mouse button'ers you may be SOL.

I just discovered the bigger problem with this issue is that now smart filters can't be copied from one document to another.

I see this as a major issue as I copy smart filters often between documents and now I have to duplicate each step of each filter in every document where I want the same settings for the filters

Well that is very strange.  I can confirm Mark Lee's temporary workaround did work for me on my PC version with a two button mouse :).

You can use the 2 mouse button trick I mentioned above or drag the document tabs out into floating windows and then you can drag the layer or smart filters.

Using the 2 mouse method will drag the whole layer including the filter. You are correct.

However it doesn't work just dragging just the filter in to place on a layer.

Share your working zone between the 2 documents and you will be able to copy everything to slide

It's not a mac only issue it happens on Windows 10 . But, it only affects dragging from the layerspanel. Dragging from the image preview area works fine and can be used as a workaround until the issue is resolved.

@david, it's only when dragging from the layers panel to another document tab. Works fine if you drag the layer from the canvas using the layer move tool.

Must be tabbed documents, I drag layers on both Mac and Windows. On Mac I have a watermark that I leave open and drag the text layer to all my web edits. On Windows I'm dragging both image and text layers between documents. But I don't use tabs on either platform. I always drag from the layers panel, not from the document window.

Version 21.2.1
Windows 10 PC
Intel i7-7700
nVidia GeForce  GTX 1070

I often need to reuse layers in multiple comps and have historically been able to select layers, click/hold and drag those layers to another docked composition, then that composition will become active and I can release the mouse button to "drop" the layers into this composition. In the latest update, I am no longer able to do this with docked compositions. I have to first undock the "primary" comp that has the layers I need (so it's now floating "on top" of the Photoshop window with the "secondary", docked composition), then click/hold and drag to the secondary comp window. Not a huge deal, but I've learned to do things one way and now it doesn't work anymore.

Greetings Jeffrey, how is the bug fix coming along? This one is a huge problem for professionals working with this product, as it really slows down the process. I have been working with Adobe products for almost 25 years and for the most part updates are good and helpful, and at times not, but this one is a real step backwards.
Thank you for your time.
