When copying and pasting file to a different file, use file name as layer name

I have suggested this before, but it would be really handy of when I opened a file in Photoshop, copy it, and paste it onto another open Photoshop document, it would automatically name the layer with the name of the copied file. Or, if I gave the file a name (changed Background to a name), Photoshop would use that name instead. Calling it layer 1 is fine if it is a new, empty layer, but if the file has a name, why not have it automatically get entered? This would save me lots of time renaming layers.

PS not sure I am being forced to pick a topic from this limited list, as none actually apply….

@Robert Ripps

I understand that this is a feature request/idea topic, which may or may not be adopted by Adobe. Until then, scripting is a solution if you really need this feature.

I have two scripts in the following topic which will name the layer with the source doc name (not the layer name, but that could be changed).

And a couple here as well on a related topic:

Another option is the Script Events Manager which can be used to automate scripts using the standard copy and paste events.
