2023 Elements not working on Sequoia

Community Beginner ,
Dec 18, 2024 Dec 18, 2024

I purchased elements 2023 via the Apple app store and it works just fine on my laptop and old desktop (running Sonoma).  I purchased a new mac mini (running Sequoia 15.2) and used the migration assistant to move files and apps.  When I launch elements, it starts to load, then stops with a message "Could not complete your request because of a disk error." In the background/Elements loader window, I see it is stopped on "Measuring Memory..."   The basic elements organizer opens and behaves normally, but the editor won't load.  I can't re-download it as it is no longer in the app store (just elements 2025).  Do I have to bite the bullet and buy it again?  Or can I get elements 2023 to work?  TIA

If you go to Apple>App Store and sign in you don't see Photoshop Elements 2023 under Account>Purchased?

Thanks for that.  While I could re-download the app this way, it still doesn't work.  I booted into safe mode, deleted the app, rebooted, re-downloaded from app store, installed and then tried to open it and I get the same error.

Try going to Apple>System Settings>Privacy & Security>Full Disk Access and adding the

Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023.app in Applications to the list and see if that makes any difference.

used the migration assistant to move files and apps.

Migration assistant will rarely work properly when moving Adobe apps.

The proper method is to use the migration assistant to move data, and then do a proper installation of Adobe apps.

Use the Cleaner Tool and then reinstall your Adobe apps.

If you registered PSE with Adobe, you may find a download link in your Adobe account page.

Thanks for your reply.  I uninstalled Pshop Elements, ran the cleaner tool, rebooted and reinstalled, and yet the issue persists.  Any other ideas?

What are the complete computer specs, including hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, what capacity, and how full)?

Apple M4 Mac Mini with 16GB memory, running Sequoia 15.2. Local drive is 256GB with 160GB free.  I also have an external SSD where my profile is saved.  It is a 2TB NAND NVMe M.2 SSD with 1.2TB free. The local drive has the OS and most of the applications (including Pshop Elements), and the external has my user profile, docs, photos, etc.  It's barely a week old.

Migration assitant will create issues causing Elements 2023 from loading. You have to do a fresh install as mentioned above and everything will work fine. Prior to the fresh install I could not log in and start the app. My Elements 2023 works perfect with IOS Sequoia now.

If you go to

Macintosh HD/Users/UserName/Library/Containers/Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor/Data/Library/Preferences

is there anything in the Preferences folder?

You can get to your User Library by clicking on your desktop then in the Go menu press the Option key and then click Library

I have a M4 Mac Mini with an external SSD, where my profile is saved.  There is no "Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor" folder on the local drive, but here is what is in the Preferences folder on the external SSD:

When you use the Photoshop Shop Elements 2023 Editor do you use the Home Screen or do you have shortcut directly to the Photoshop Shop Elements 2023 Editor in order to skip the Home Screen?

I've tried both.  I can access the home screen and organizer, but if I click on the Photo editor link inside the welcome window, or if I click the app shortcut, both open PSE and then halt on the loading process with the "Could not complete your request because of a disk error."  I just finished running disk utility on the local HD and no errors found.

Perhaps a reset of the Photoshop elements 2023 preferences will make a difference.

If you use the Home Screen press Shift Option Cmd while clicking on Photo Editor and you should get a dialog

asking if you want to Delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File. Click Yes.

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately this doesn't work either.  I get the prompt, click the delete confirmation and then the same thing happens where it stops loading the editor and says couldn't complete b/c of a disk error

Are you loading the program direct or thru Adobe Creative Cloud? I had to go thru ACC for the new install when going to Sequoia. Direct kept giving me consistant log in error messages.

No, I'm downloading it from the Apple App Store, where I purchased it originally.  I went down a Google rabbit hole trying to find where I can get the serial number from Apple so that I can enter it in Adobe, and TLDR Apple and Adobe point the finger at each other,  and neither is helping.  To be honest, I've been working at this for far too many hours to be worth my time.  I'm appreciative of all the help provided here, but it in the end, none of these solutions worked, and I've spent more time than I care to, so rather than keep doing that, I am just going to purchase the new version.  Lesson learned though: do it from Adobe and NOT APPLE.
