ACR Version 15 should work in Elements 2022.  Simply copy the Camera Raw.8bi file from the following folder on your old computer to the same location on your new one:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 20\File Formats\

If I remember correctly there were exact directions you had to follow. Put in Adobe programs x86, delete what was there, followed by move it  programs in Adobe in  common folder in specific location after delete what was in there first-- I do not know where to find that info. I remember I needed that 15.3 as Sony changed some version of raw files in a camera update. I am not very tech savvy but know following directions I managed to change and update my Camera raw in several elements versions but end file spot varied from version to version. Know that 15.3 had 79,000 size to it and was different than one that was originally there.  So would be great if I had something to follow. Know you helped me Greg back in 2022.  Thanks

If what you said in your original post is accurate, then you only need to do what I said.  Copy the Camera Raw.8bi file from the location I have given you on the old computer to your new computer.  If you are only installing Elements 2022 on your new computer, it will be installed in the C:\Program Files directory.  I don't know why you are bringing up Program Files (x86) unless you are installing Elements 12 or earlier on your new computer.

I have given you the simplest solution, if Camera Raw version 15 is working under Elements 2022 on your laptop.  Any other solution will be far more complicated.

From your original post in 2022 you had the following instructions:

  • ·  On macOS, double-click the .dmg file to mount it.
  • On Windows double-click the downloaded .zip file to unzip it. (Windows might unzip the file for you.)
  • ·  On macOS, double-click the .pkg file to start the installer.
  • On Windows, double-click the resulting .exe file to start the installer.
  •   Follow the on-screen instructions.
  •   Once installed successfully, close the installer window.
  •   Navigate to the following folder:
  • On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CC/File Formats
  • On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats
  •   Copy the Camera Raw plug-in from the CC > File Formats folder that is mentioned in the above step.
  •   Navigate to the following folder:
  • On macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/Elements<Version Number>/File Formats
  • On Windows: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements<Version Number>\File Formats
  •   Replace the existing Camera Raw plugin in Elements<Version Number> folder with the plug-in that you copied in step 8.

So  excuse my lack of savy--- Believe I copy the 15.3 version from my laptop in the CC/ file format folder and transfer to new desktop replacing the camera raw 14.1 in same folder.  Then I

  • Replace the existing Camera Raw plugin in Elements<Version Number> folder with the plug-in that you copied in step 8.

What is the best way to copy the file--- copy to external hard drive or can it forwarded some other way.  I want to get this right.  Sometimes having a little knowlegde gets me into quite a few messes.

If you have ACR version 15.3 currently working on your laptop, you can completely ignore all of the other instructions.  Those were only necessary to get the new version copied into your Elements 2022 program.  (You can check which version of ACR is working in any version of Elements by clicking on the Help>About Plug-in>Camera Raw menu.)

You can copy the Camera Raw.8bi file from the old computer to the new one by using an external drive or a thumb drive.  It is also small enough that you should also be able to email it to yourself.
