When I try it, i am prompted that it only works with rgb documents, do you want to change it? I've never had any issues with it.

I'm hoping someone's comment will help me use colorization on b/w photo of man. I have a color photo to use to set correct skin. Is this where I should be posting? I'm brand new to this

Ohter users will see this and offer many different ideas. Pick and choose what you like.
I will be able to work on this later today- I am a teacher and must get ready for school in a few minutes.
Start with adjusting the contrast and brightness., and focus- on the bottom photo-- try to make it as "crisp" as possible.
When you do things like coloring having well defined edges (Differences between light and dark) makes a world of difference.

Here's what I got so far. Does it look like progress? To colorize it, I want to be able to choose the skin from the color photo.

Regarding 2nd Try: I almost had it and then lost it. I copied, but when I pasted on a new canvas, I got the background instead of the man. I had it selected accurately around the ears. That was 2nd Try which I can't find. I would have inversed the selection if I could get back to it. I can't seem to get back to where I was.
This is Try #3. Am I making any progress? There are so many new tools since I used photoshop elements back when you purchased the DVD.

I've thought about this a bit today when I was in the hospital: I think the import thing for you to do to to make corrections (scratches, light dark spots), stuff like that first. Make the best possible photo you can in black and white first.
You need to create a good photo to start with- before you try to color anything.
This is ascrenshot from photoshop- I've just been playing with the photo in there first. What I do in some cases is to figure it all out in photoshop, that transfer it over to PSE- figureing out how to getthe same results that I got in photoshop.
Here is what I've done so far in photoshop--- there is only one thing I did in PS that PSE cannot do without a bit of work.

This coloring was done in Photoshop- I'm acutally pretty impressed with it. You could use this to touch up a couple of spots in PSE and people would never ever know the irignal photo was not color.
I chose not to do the side by side comparison you spoke about earlier. Why? Even the original color image you are using to do the comparing with is a bit faded and washed out.
I pay only $10.84 a month for photoshop- this image alone easilly justifys that cost and makes me think "Yeah, it's worth it".

You can fix allthese things in PSE. Don't be in a hurry. work in sections-- it doesn't have to be perfect.

Thank you so very much. I'm trying to figure out how you managed to get his ear to show up so nicely (his right ear, left looking at picture). I was thinking I'd have to choose the object and mask it and then add the ear in order to get anywhere. I'm not sure you you got this . Also, I don't know the difference between PS and PSE. I have PSE on my windows 7 computers (2 still work fine), but I've been on a mac for a number of years, and just down downloaded creative cloud with PS and LR.

Progress? Not so much, HOWEVER, you are learning things about the program, and that is always agood thing.

One of my famous "Quick N dirty" edits: I changed the background and blurred it. Stll a lot of work to really make it looks like he actially part of the new background.

Please don't look at my images and think "Man, I can never ever do that"-- I disagree- it will take some time, but break things down into tiny baby steps. With serious editing do it in small steps, aand ALWAYS save your work as a psd every single time you step away fro myour computer.
For example: With every image I work on I take care of physical problems firsts: scratches, dest specks, thing like that.

That new background is pretty cool looking. I'm planning to use the remove tool to get rid of his hand and whater surface he was holding onto. Also, I think his eyes look better in the 3rd original. I haven't done much with that yet. I've been at school and other events, and just now am getting chance to relook at this.

I have not looked at this for a couple of days. We're planning a work trip next week and hopefully camping the folloring. I've been swamped with packing and cooking. I'll get back to working on this--possibly during work trip when I have WiFi access.
