Hi All, I will appreaciate your help with a confusing situation.  (Running PS Elements v19 on Windows 10).

When I run "Reconnect -> all missing files" it says "Preparing files... X of 721" as it runs through all X files.

Then the "Reconnect missing files" dialog box (for manually reconnecting) opens and in the "Files missing from catalog" list it has 406 items.

If I exit from there and choose Find -> All Missing Files in the grid then it shows "479 items" in the bottom left corner.  (I checked that Visibility -> Show All Files is checked, View -> Media Types -> Photo/Video/Audio/Projects are all checked, and View -> Hidden Files -> Show all files is checked so I dont think I'm missing anything).

How can I understand how many files I am really missing?  721, 406 or 479?   Why are these numbers different?

Thank you for your help/advice!

Ron

Another possibility is whether the files are stacked or in a version set.  In some situations, only the top file of the stack is counted.  You can expand stacks OR version sets, but not both at the same time.

thanks for the fast reply.

Find -> All Missing Files, Find -> All Version Sets, and Find -> All Stacks are independent of each-other (you can only choose one of these) so I would assume that Find -> All Missing Files would show all missing files (including versions and stacks) if not otherwise hidden according to View criteria?

I see now that Find -> All Missing Files view does in fact include items from the same stack and version sets as a missing file, but which are not missing.  That probably explains the discrepancy between the 406 and the 479 numbers although there is no easy way to know (without manually counting them all) as I cannot easily hide those "not missing" stack and version set items from the Find -> All Missing Files view.  (Which is of course stupid.)

But it still doesnt explain the 721 number in Reconnect process...

I deleted some files at the file system level, using a tool that detected exact file duplicated.

I was expecting to then open PSE and simply delete the files that needed to be reconnected.

But when I opened the missing file tool I found that there were many more files than I expected that were missing.

Someone had deleted a directory that should not have been deleted.

So now I'm trying to sort the missing files that were duplicates (which should be deleted) from the ones which are truly misisng (so I can try to hunt for them in other places/backups).
