Does Photoshop Elements 2018 have command line arguments?

New Here ,
Oct 11, 2017 Oct 11, 2017

I use a program called Faststone Image Viewer when I want to look at my photos.  Although this program has some basic editing functions it does have the option of launching a photo editor like Elements.  So far, I've been able to configure Faststone to launch Elements however Faststone is not passing the path of the file currently being viewed to Elements and I'm assuming that Elements has some sort of argument that it's expecting.  Does anyone know what this argument might be?  Thanks.

Just point to the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2018 using the Add button and leave the second field Parameters alone.

The Faststone version is 6.4 which  is the current version.  My system is Windows 10 Pro 64 bit patched with all October 2017 patches.

I wonder if version 6.3 would work?

Why would I want to downgrade from 6.4 to 6.3?

Just in case it works in the older version.

You probably just need to select the Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor.exe when specifying an external editor for Faststone.

FastStone has two fields within their program when you want to launch a 3rd party photo editor.  One is the complete path of the Photoshopelementseditor.exe and the other field is the argument needed by the EXE to open the file you want to edit.  Not sure how Canon does it but if I scan a photo on my scanner, as soon as I save the scanned image it opens up Elements with the newly saved image file.

Jeff,

You were spot on with your suggestion.  When you attempt to add an external program to Faststone the program pre-fills the field with what appears to be a sample argument and when you leave that sample argument in place it only launches Elements.  However, as you suggested, if you remove that default argument and leave the field blank, Elements will be launched and the photo you selected and were viewing in Faststone will be the file being edited by Elements.  Thanks a lot for the suggestion.
