What type of watermarks?

If it's a digitally embedded watermark, you can't.

If it's a watermark image blended onto the background image, you'll have to use the Clone tool and Spot Healing brush.

In either case, those watermarks were put there for the specific purpose of protecting the original creator's rights and you remove those watermarks at you own (legal) risk....

Then, if it's a digitally embedded watermark (invisible), you can remove it using the same software you used to embed it.

Yep, there's nothing else but to spend some tedious time with the Clone and Spot Healing tools....

This may be a moot subject by now, but I'm upset over the nonchalant answer given regarding how to remove watermarks. My photos ...MY photos ...that were taken by ME have a "cannery" watermark embedded. And yes, i surely SHOULD be able to remove it without consequence. Charly

It depends on the types of watermark. Watermark is indeed important to most of the users, it helps to identify the owner of the pictures and protect the copyright of the publisher too as well. So if you want to remove watermark in the right way, maybe you can try Easepaint Watermark Remover, which is simple to use and works well.
