I have made a white canvas into which I want to import a photo.

When I choose "Ctrl + O" to open a photo it comes into a new own canvas every time.

How can I get it right into the canvas I created?

"Ctrl C" and "Ctrl V" does not work, to move it to where I want it.

Sorry, I have a problem with this again...

When I drag a photo into the canvas it comes up as a new own object. I want it to come into my "Layer 1".

How do I do that?

Kindly Linnea

I don't know what you mean by "to come into my 'Layer 1".

Dragging a file from the photo bin just adds a new layer in the layer palette, it does not 'mix' its contents into an existing layer.

Are you trying to add an object or person, e.g. a person to a group shot?

Or are you trying to place two picture files on one canvas?

Yes, I want to get several photos into the same picture, but I can not.

Maybe a movie can explain my problem better?!

Thank you for trying to understand!

1. Open the main picture file (A)

2. Open picture file B. Use one of the selection tools, e.g. lasso tool,  or magnetic lasso tool, to select the object/person. When the seletion is complete, press CTRL+C on the keyboard to place it on the clipboard. Go back to A, and press CTRL+V. You should see 2 layers in the layer palette: Background layer (A) and the layer with the selection above this.

3. Activate the move tool to position the selected object.

4. Repeat with C, D, E, etc.

If you wish to to place several  pictures in their entirety on one canvas, you have to do the math so that they will fit. Once you have determined this, go to File>New>Blank file, enter the dimensions (H&W) for the canvas. Next, go to File>Place and point to each picture that you wish to place on the canvas, Each picture will come in on a separate layer, and you can position them to suit.

Wow, thank you for a very pedagogical answer!

"File > Place" must be "Arkiv > Montera" in the Swedish version. That worked!

Thanks again!

Hmm... it seems like the pixels become very big ( in the photo a choose) when I do like this.

Does "Place" change the quality of the photo in some way?

When you go to File>place and then Place, you should see a rectangular outline surrounding the picture. Use the corner handles to resize.

If that does not work for you, open the picture file, go to Select>all, Edit>copy, then at the destination (canvas) go to Edit>paste.
