Our new iPhone saves photos in HEIC format, but these files are not importing into Photoshop Elements or Organizer. I followed the help instructions by loading the Microsoft HEIF image extension and the HEVC video extension. Now we can see the previews in Windows Explorer or Photos, but still cannot import them into Elements. So I purchased the new (2022) version from Adobe, and still get the error that this format is not supported - even though it provides a link back to the instructions I already followed. Can someone please help me to import HEIC files?

it was only a partial solution. In details view thumbnails are more stable but not stable enough. So PSE 2023 is pretty much useless for HEIC files.

Windows 11 has been a train wreck of issues for me. I recently went back to Windows 10.

I had a contact with Adobe a few weeks ago. They have confirmed me that there is still no corrected version of PSE 2023, but they are working on it.
This ist not good, I expect another quality of service from such a company. I have paid for this software and it is just useless.

@Chris22853298zhyx, have you tried updating the thumbnails with Ctrl+Shift+U as I suggested in an earlier post?

Will do when I get home.

I can confirm this works! I even ctrl-clicked and chose multiple photos and used this fix.
I do have the HEIC or whatever $1 software from days gone by, which I think is now in the latest 22H2 photos app (horrible app). Anyhow it seems to work well and like I said before 2023 fixed the peformance issues.

Great news: about a week ago, my PSE 2023 updated itself to a new version and it seems to me that the problem mentionned here (Windows 11 vs. PSE 2023 for HEIC files) is solved!
For videos, the situation is still no better than with PSE 9 (jumping video, interruption in sound, sometimes completely scrambled image)... but I have learned to live with that.
