Incorrect photo display sequence using Newest in Media view

In media view the ordered sequence of displayed photos is correct if I select Oldest or by Download. But with Newest selected some photos are out of sequence according to the date/time shown under each (the same as the date/time shown 3 times in detailed metadata). The file creation and modification date/time also shown in the Info panel for two incorrectly sequenced files would not explain the incorrect display sequence. I am puzzled why the modification data shows older than creation data but I am familiar with windows rather than the iMac running this PSE2018. What can I do to fix this?

Details: iOS version compatible with the PSE according to Adobe. New PSE installation being tested with downloads from 2 cameras, iPhone and import from folder (for scans). Tag writing to file tested.

In your menu Edit >> Preferences >> General, which radio button have you checked for the date sort order in a given day?

The radio button was the problem. From new it was set to "reverse on each day" my selected "newest" sort order - very unexpected behaviour! Clicking it fixed the problem - many thanks for your brilliant prompt help. Best wishes John
