I have been unable to open PSE 6 in Windows 7. It worked on my old computer which used XP Home SP3.

Is it a clean Windows 7 installation,i.e. not an upgrade?

I am running PSE 6 on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and it works perfectly and it was the same when using Vista 64. But I made a clean installation in both cases since that is the best way to avoid problems when shifting OS. I did try an upgrade but that gave me problems with Lightroom but after a clean installation Lightroom also worked perfectly.

So the answer is yes, PSE 6 should run just fine on 64-bit Windows 7.

Well, your results are the same as mine. I gave up and bought PSE 8, which

works fine. You might look in Windows Explorer to see if PSE6 installed in a

different location. That happened to a chess program for me. It installed

under either games or HP games and works fine when opened in that location.

I followed the steps listed in John Ellis's Photoshop FAQ at the section:

http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Install_the_licensing-service

That removed the license key from the software, and then I was able to run it and put the license key again, and this time it worked.  I still have to run it in compatibility mode, and it doesn't work perfectly (I have to tell it it's okay to run the program every time I load it, and it doesn't support draging files into the editor window), but at least it opens.

Thank you very much, Al Chemist. I will try to follow the instructions in the link you have provided. But I am thinking ultimately we will have to get PSE 8.

I just bought a new Acer Aspire with Windows 7 (64Bit). I was able to load the program and the first couple of times I got it to open but once I tried the EDIT Screen it never loaded the page. Now it won't open because my PC detects errors and shuts it down. I do not know if I have a "clean loaded Windows 7" or not, it's a new pc.
