Photo Editor used to work but now won't even open

In Photoshop Elements 2019, the Photo Editor was working perfectly but now won't open at all. Any advice would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Hi ,

If you are using win - Go to Task manager (or Activity monition -for Mac)

Find the executable of Photoshop Elements (if running)

Manually kill it.

Relaunch the application now.

If this does not solve your problem , Share what type of error/message you are getting when you try to launch the application.

My version (win10) never worked. It opens the initial screen but when either oganizer or editor are selected a small pop up hasa section that rotates for say 20 seconds and then closes. Nothing more.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled and made sure I clear preferences but just the same [problem.

With this many people having this problem you'd think Adobe would be serious about trying to fix it.

Never again,

I am totally over Adobe.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience you had to face. In order to troubleshoot the issue, please provide the following information:

  • OS Details:

        Windows: Open run -> type cmd ->type winver

  • Device drivers’ information:

         Windows: type System Information (Desktop App) -> File Menu -> Save

  • Run Log Collector Tool and share the logs.

          Log Collector Tool can be downloaded from https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/kb/cc-log-collector.html

  • Does this issue occur after a recent OS upgrade/product update?

  • Is any anti-virus installed on your system? If yes, please mention the antivirus' name

  • Check if PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe is present at the install location

    (Default installation location- C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2019\)

The same thing happened to me!  I tried loading to my Windows computer as well as my Mac. I never can get the photo editor to launch... The home screen comes up and then nothing. I'm so angry right now... I am really in need of editing software ASAP for Christmas presents. I'm glad it's not just me... But I will never buy photoshop again. This is awful for such a pricy program.

Has it ever worked for you, or did it fail after installation?

Have you only just installed it and are you using the Organizer?  If so, there is a lot of auto-analysis that is probably taking place in the background for Face Recognition and Auto-Creations.  If you turn these off in Preferences (and reboot), does this fix it for you?  Have you tried an uninstall/reinstall of the program?

Also, what OS are you using and where did you purchase from?  (There have been some issues with buying the app from the Apple store, I believe.)

Added:  Sorry, I see you are using Task Manager, so I assume you are on Windows - what version?

Yes, Adobe Elements, Photoshop and Organizer have all worked great until

today. Photoshop will not open for me today. The other two programs appear

to work fine. I have rebooted a couple times. I updated my drivers

(Avast), and I have opened task manager to see if it is running (no it is

not). We have Windows PC, and purchased the program online.

lisar89087080​, I just want to confirm that you are using Elements 2019 and are on a Windows 10 PC?

Have you tried opening from the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe file which can be found at C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2019\  ?  If not, give that a try.

If that doesn't work, try deleting preferences by holding down the Alt, Shift, Ctrl keys immediately after launching the exe file.  A dialog will pop up asking if you want to delete the settings file.  Answer yes.

Let us know if this works.

is no PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe file. A bunch of .dll files. and folders.

If you can see the .dll files, then I'm not sure if there is a possible folder view setting that may hide exe files in Windows 7.  But if the exe file is in fact missing from your computer, then you need to uninstall and reinstall Elements.  Perhaps you can do a Windows search of your computer for the PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe file.  Here is what the folder looks like on my machine:

program launched. It worked last night?

Then try an uninstall/reinstall.  When you uninstall, you may be asked whether to keep your settings.  (i'm not sure of the exact wording.)  You should choose not to keep your settings.

Installed an update for PhotoShop Elements 2019 for Mac tonight (26 March 2019) and now PSE Editor will not open.  Need help.  Can open PSE and PSE Organizer but not the Editor.

I had to uninstall and reinstall the software, and then it worked fine.

Wasn't what I wanted to do but turned out to be an easy process, took 5

minutes.
