photoshop clear toolbar not working

Hi, i'm currently watching a youtube tutorial -'below' but am stuck at 0.38seconds when it asks me to press clear; on my screen it comes up blank. i've gone back through to the start, tried a different photo and reset my preferences but nothing is working can someone please help me out.

Can you post a larger image of this symbol on your layer?

Your layers are Smart Objects.

After you duplicate the Layer go to Layer>Smart Objects>Rasterize.

Then you should be able to complete the rest of the tutorial.
