Problem with Elements 26 Organizer

Community Beginner ,
Oct 03, 2025 Oct 03, 2025

I am unable to import TIF files into my elements 26 organizer.  I get a message saying these files are not supported. However, these are files that have been loaded into Elements 25 with no problem. I can import jpg files, just not tif files.   I am able to open the tif files in the elements 26 editor and process them, but trying to import to a catalog is not possible.  Suggestions?

I'm not sure why there is no longer Organizer import as these files can be used in the Editor. With so many people shooting on phones it could be that demand is insufficient and Adobe has quietly dropped support. Tiff files can be extremely large and they could affect performance of a catalog system. You could install the free Adobe application Bridge - see image. It's not necessary to import. Bridge is a browser application and it will just see your folders and their contents. You can right-click on any tif thumbnail and choose to open in the PSE 2026 Editor.

Thank you for the response. There is an Import feature in Elements 26
organizer. It just doesn't work with TIF files like it used to. It works
fine with jpg files. These TIFfiles are the same ones that I have imported
into the organizer since I began using Elements in 2017; I tried importing
smaller TIF files with the same bad result.. Has to be a bug of some kind
or else something is amiss in my registry for the new installation or
there's some obscure setting I've missed.

It could be a bug. It does seem strange that these files can be edited and saved to Organizer as a version set but can’t be imported directly from a folder. The latest Adobe link suggests they are supported for import and export.  I can only suggest you start a chat session with Adobe Support. In the meantime I will raise it with my contacts at Adobe.

I can import TIFF files into PSE 2026 Organizer without any issues. I tried a handful of images and they all worked fine for me. Can you post a sample file that's causing problems?

Thanks for your response!
Problem is not with my files. I have thousands of tif files and none of
them will import. They can't possibly all be corrupt. These are the same
files I have used with every version of elements since version 2017, so my
files aren't the problem. I was able restore a backup from pse25 into the
26 organizer as well.

I did manage to get to talk to a live tech, via computer and telephone.
Techs will be calling me back Monday.

Thank you for your response. I need a link to where I would start a chat
session. I'm unable to find that. This link only has Community as a

Hi Jonilohr, I was able to confirm the problem you're having importing TIF files into the 2026 Organizer. I was having the same problem on my PC. But I have discovered a workaround that will enable you to import the files. You need to edit the filename and change the extension from "tif" to "tiff".

Versions of the Organizer earlier than 2026 would import both tif and tiff. I have filed a bug report with Adobe about this problem.

Great detective work! That is indeed what happens to me (PSE 2026 on Windows 11): I can import .tiff files but not .tif. PSE 2025 imports both with no issue.

Wow!! Great work both of you! When I talk to Adobe on Monday (I actually
have a phone appointment!), if thet haven't figured out that bug, I'll let
them know. I'm happy it's a fairly minor bug that can easily be fixed in
an upgrade. I'll wait for that rather than renaming hundreds of files.

Thank you so much for working on this!

Hi

I have the same problem. .tif files in Organizer 2026 are no longer supported. If I change to .tiff it works.

When you have thousands of files in your Organizer from older catalogues, which are converted in new catalogues, you have a big problem. Adobe should be able to solve this little problem with a great impact.

I spoke with tech support on the phone and supposedly they have reported
this bug. Just have to deal with 2025 until they put out a fix.

Thanks. We users have to find out their created bugs. Always the same with Adobe. The license you are waiting to use is running and will not be backdated. If you already deleted 2025, you have to reinstall your catalogues. And the workflow with other photo-apps is blocked. E.g. Nik Collection by DXO. A real mess.

Only a novice or a crazy person would delete a version without testing the
new one!
I will deal with Adobe about the license if it comes to that.

It's funny because apparently this same bug existed in the early 2025
version...I must have purchased it after the fix.

You put the finger on the spot. It's crazy to trust Adobe. Thanks for your competent estimation of my person.

It is very confusing, that Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor is producing itself .tif files instead of .tiff.

The suffix option is named TIFF, but the output is tif.
