I have created albums for each year but sometimes when I bring up a specific year I want to rearrange the order of my images. Previously I could drag and drop an image to achieve this but this does not work for me now. If I left-click on an image I get the fist pointer but the image will not move to the desired new position.

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have the order set to newest or oldest? If so switch to album order. You can then drag and drop and the images will remain in your fixed custom order with a position number on each thumbnail.

As John says, although you may see the fist cursor appear, you cannot move the thumbnails around unless you are in Sort by: Album order.
