Many will start getting an error message now if they try and direct download the installer for their adobe products. Why? I have no idea. I tried myself to reinstall my licensed software, in this case, Photoshop Elements 2022, and kept getting this notice which hasn't occurred before:

"installation  cannot continue as the installer file may be damaged. Download the installer again."

The usual "guidance being relied on is in fact out of date, inaccurate or just nonsense. The false advice is usually something along the lines of:

  • Make sure all your updates have been done including drivers (you should do that anyways but it wont help).
  • Use a different browser (Edge/Both versions, FireFox, Safari, Chrome).
  • Check your Internet connection, try installing trial software then activate, blah, blah, blah.
  • Make sure you are not trying to install something else at the same time. Generally good advice but the problem is occurring when just trying to install the one particular program/software.

Chances are all these "suggestions" and "work arounds" will not work. What you should do is first, check your updates and make sure nothing is in the process of updating, trying to install or that your computer needs to restart in order to complete updates. SO check those first. Also don't try and install several programs at the same time anyways because that is just a bad idea and will cause its own issues later if you managed to do so.

Now here is the basic check list before proceeding:

  • Remove all versions or copies of the installers you had because they will be broken/wont work, and there is no reason to keep hold of them.
  • Make sure you know your login because you will likely have to do this manually several times along the way for some of these steps. Do be prepared to be annoyed.
  • Make sure you do have your current product/license key.
  • Make sure to make a lot of notes because you may have do do this as well with other products from Adobe that are not installing as they have before.
  • This solution was done in both Windows 10 and Windows 11 versions. It may or may not work in MAC the same way.

LETS BEGIN (PICS HAVE BEEN INCLUDED)

Cloud.PNG

  • In the Top Right Corner you will open the icon and see your account info, In the drop down select Adobe Account:

Cliud account.PNG

  • This will open the page again where your products you have purchased are at. You will in fact do this for all future installers you purchase.
  • Select the download option for your product (Make sure to use a sticky note long enough to save the license key because you will need it later):

Product.PNG

  • Sit back and let the installer do its job which will take a bit. It will install and you should get this window wherein you will choose the selection indicated:

Poduct.PNG

  •  You will then get this set of windows:

signin.PNG

  • Select Sign in and this will come up:

Activate.PNG

  • Select activation now and make sure you have your product key available (I know this is a long process and annoying but its the best option when nothing else works):

enter autehntication key.PNG

  • If you entered the license/product key correctly, you should get to this window.

Welcome notice.PNG

  •  click on OK and it should open the window to start using the product, which should appear like this:

You are now done and have successfully installed your software.

You're Welcome

You need to move it back into download and install because this is a download and install issue and solution.

i'll move it wherever you want, but download&install is rarely frequented by non-subscription users.

of course, it could be that the pse forum is rarely frequented by people with download&install problems.

i just don't know that, but felt if that were the case, a pse expert would recommend moving it back.

I don't anyone really wants to read such a long, overly complicated answer.   I do think it's' a mistake to even discuss The creative cloud for desktop app in your answer: It simply is not needed to download what you have purchased-- just click on your icon in the top right of this page and select "Adobe account", boom, there ya go.

By incorporating the creative cloud stuff in your answer people are going to get get confused- simply becasue PSE is not a CC app, and you have to "hunt for it".

If your method qworks for you, good.  There are simplier ways of doing the same thing.

If you have a registered product, it will be able to be redownloaded from your account page with the product key. How is that complicated?

I think you are mistaken. I am a registered member, have an registered copy and product key. When Elements starts to fail because of some nonsense update conflict the only working solution I have found is go to your product list, use the direct download from the account page, and reenter the product key so installation repairs and restores whatever files got damaged.

Sorry, but I disagree with Glenn.  The installation of the Creative Cloud desktop application has become a standard solution that I have been suggesting for those who have experienced difficulty in installing various versions of Elements.  (In fact, I'm pretty sure that Glenn has suggested it too.)

As I understand it, the Creative Cloud application is being used to authenticate license activation for Elements.   I have asked Adobe to tell us which versions of Elements require this solution but have never received a response.  During the Elements 2022 cycle, Adobe decided to go back to a self-authenticating installer and I believe it has been built into the Elements 2022 installer available from this link.  I am assuming but haven't confirmed that Elements 2023 does not require the installation of the CC application.

So, as far as I am concerned, the OP is a valuable contribution to the Elements forum and I will mark the OP as correct if that is possible.

Added: Sorry @raymondf14949122, it is not possible to mark your original post as correct, but thanks for your helpful contribution to the Elements Community.

And my recollection of Glenn's prior post on this subject seems to be correct.

No problm. However, I just had to do the same thig again today to fix the program yet again after all this time. The only reason I inclued the visual references was to help individuals find where the content and information is for their product so they can skip passed ineffective "solutions."
