Have just imported pictures and videos from Android telephone. Some of the videos show thumbnail as a speaker and they will play the sound, but will not show the video. Others will show a picture of a film tape in the upper right corner off the thumbnail, but will not play neither sound not video. How on earth can that be? All videos are taken with the same phone. When trying to import one of the videos in to pse2024 it does not play either but says that codec is not supported. The video is MP4 which should be supported by both pse2013 and pse2024.....

Hoping for help. I'm almost desperate using Adobe......

mp4 is a container not a codec. The video in that container can be encoded in various formats. Try converting it to an mp4 in H264. The codecs for that are widely supported.

To convert you can use Handbrake which is free and widely used for video format conversion, I use it here.

While Dave's answer is correct, I've moved your post from Photoshop to the Photoshop Elements (PSE) forum.

Thanks for answer. But howcome the same camera saves 2 videofilmes that act differently in adobe? That must be an adobe error?

What happened when you converted to .mp4?

I use Adobe Media Encoder to convert. In addition to Handbrake, Adobe also offers free conversion here:

I'll try adobes own converter- Handbrake appears difficult to use. Just
wish I understood why 2 videos from same camera and taken within the same 2
hour timespan can display thumbnails differently in PSE and act differently.

It is very simple to change the video settings in Android, therefore very simple to change them accidentally.

If you open each video clip in Handbrake it will show you what the format was, as recorded, in terms of pixel size, frame rate, and encoding. Then on a separate tab you simply set what output you do want for video and audio. I would recommend HD (1920 x 1024,), 30fps Constant frame rate (CFR), H264, mp4 (leave audio as it was recorded) and it will convert and save a copy in that new format.

All is solved. Camera settings and Handbrake solved it.
