What did I do?

Long time user but rank amateur:

Working with some old photos and some of the guided effects. I want to colorize an old photo however in Elements 2025 it appears with the left half of the photo as a "ladder" effect of pale gray lines top to bottom while the right half is "normal".

I tried to include an example but when I previewed this query, the photo appeared "normal".

This clutz thanks you for any help provided.

You took a photo with your phone of a picture in a frame- take the picture out of the frame and scan it in.   Even if the photo is stuck to the glass you can still scan it that.

If you don't have a scanner: take a picture of the photo without the glass, and no flash.

There are many phone apps that allow you to scan a photo.  If you have an iPhone, there is a scanner available in the Notes app.

Also, as I understand your question, the defective image you see on your computer monitor is different than the one you have attached to your post.  If that is the case, there may be a graphics card issue.  You should update your graphics card driver and/or go to the Edit>Preferences>Performance dialog and change the setting of the box for using the Graphics Processor for improved performance.
