Editing PC PPD Page Sizes

New Here ,
Oct 20, 2011 Oct 20, 2011

I can't get my "Custom Page Size" to go any larger than the standard 11 x 17 no matter what I enter it reverts back. So - I have been trying to adjust the printable, imageable size for one of the existing sizes, let say the Tabloid Extra. I change all locations in the ppd to match but when I replace the ppd it just completely drops that entry. I've tried to add an entry and that doesn't work.

When I replace the PPD with a copy of the original then everything is back to normal. I checked the coding for Max Page Size and it seems to be large enough for the size I want but again the ppd or driver won't let me change it. I did download and install a new Adobe Postscript Driver - No Help.

Is there another file that I need to change also? Or what am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Donna

I assume that you are editing a PPD file for which there is a “live” PostScript printer driver instance already in existence, correct?

If that is the case, after you do the edit to the PPD file, you must delete the matching .BPD file before the system recognizes the changed .PPD file. The .BPD file is a parsed, binary version of the .PPD file used by the driver for efficiency. When the driver doesn't find the .BPD file with the same base filename, it goes for the .PPD file and creates a new .BPD file from that. Until then, your changes don't take effect!

Note that the Adobe Universal Printer Driver Installer under Windows XP (32-bit) is only for purposes of creating a PostScript printer driver instance from a PPD using the standard Microsoft Windows PSCRIPT5 driver. There is no Adobe PostScript driver! Also note that this installer does not work at all with any 64-bit version of Windows and doesn't work properly with either Windows Vista or Windows 7. There are no plans to update it!

Thank you for the help, I only had LH300_1.BPD and LH330_1.BPD files in the directory, my PPD is named XNLCAP.PPD - I do have a .ABD file. I renamed it .ABD_original and went to my Page Setup screen again and the page size that I altered is completely missing. It did create a new .ABD file.

What do you think I'm missing - I appreciate your assistance.
