Beta masking: really?

I use masks a lot. Ai masks - great. What you've done to the rest of them - hard facepalm
Previously: I have an effect on a clip and I want to mask it. Generally I'm already in the effects panel, I click on the mask icon and adjust the mask. Yes adjusting each point is a pain in the bum, this could be improved.

Beta 25.6.0:
I mouse to the tools pallete,
click and wait for the dropdown,
select the rectange
draw the mask

mouse back to the effects pallete
drag the unasigned mask to the effect
Adjust the mask whilst trying to see what effect its having through the "helpful" red mist

Someone is going to tell me I can assign a shortcut to it.  Can I get a shortcut to drag the unnasigned mask to effect? What If I have a lumetri effect open?  WIll I have to drag it past all that to the effect I want?  Or will I have to close all the effects before I can drag it to the one I want.

Putting the mask in an unasigned item is one of the clunkiest user interface cluges I've seen in a long time.  Being able to draw the mask - great. Removing the expand control from the on screen mask?  why???

You deliberately created a bug with this feature alteration. Put it back.

Sorry, this kind of UI increase-in-clicks makes me seriously angry. IT WAS RIGHT THERE. IN THE EFFECTS MENU. UNDER THE OPACITY.

Now we have to have to do more steps when before it was incredibly obvious where and what it was. PLEASE for the love of god, and its not just you people, it's SO many software companies adding steps and menus for the sake of consistency without accounting for convenience. Nobody needs it in the toolbar. It should be right there with the tools already active. We are literally ALWAYS looking at the effects menu.

I mean seriously. Sorry for the rudeness but I just have no desire to be nice about yet another ignorant UI decision from yet another otherwise reputable entity.

Rant over.

We added shortcuts for the new masking tools in the toolbar and a shortcut called Change to Opacity Mask for the unassigned masks in the Effect Controls. The new masks also apply when you apply an effect from the Effects panel as well. You should have controls for mask expansion, feather, mask mode and transform capabilities with Object Mask and the Vector Masks.

If you select an effect in the Effect Controls Panel, the created mask will be applied directrly to the effect. Also, if add an effect, any Unassigned mask[s] will be promoted to the added effect.
Regarding the overlay, you can disable it in the Mask Overlay menu located in the Program Monitor. Note that this setting is currenly set per sequence. Hope this helps.
