Discuss: Apple ProRes is really fast on the new M1 Pro and M1 Max MacBook Pros

We’re excited to announce support for new Apple ProRes hardware acceleration in Premiere Pro (Beta). The new M1 Pro and M1 Max chips include dedicated hardware support for ProRes formats. We have implemented support for the new technology in the latest public Beta.

Our preliminary benchmarking on 4K and 8K ProRes shows impressive performance gains compared with the previous generation 16” MacBook Pros. We’re still testing but the engineering work is complete and available to our users via public Beta. You should expect much improved playback, and exports that are several times faster than before.

To test these improvements, you need:

When you’re able to get your hands on the new hardware, please share your feedback with us as we optimize performance gains. Join the conversation below.

Much love ❤️. Sorry for asking that, but when do you think it will get to the stable release?

I'm seeing improved export times but transcoding h265 to prores 422 is signficantly slower in media encoder vs compressor. Media encoder takes approx 10 mins and compressor will finish in just under 3 minutes. Its still a massive improvement over my 2019 macbook (approx 45 mins), but seems like there's still gains to be had.
