Now in Beta: Auto Tag your Audio Clips with AI

Auto Tagging automatically categorizes audio clips into one of four tags: Dialogue, Music, SFX or Ambience and shows you the most relevant audio controls in the Essential Sound Panel. You could manually tag clips before, but now Sensei AI will do it for you!

How does it work?

Select one or multiple clips in the timeline and run the Auto Tag action from the Essential Sound Panel. If you do not have the Essential Sound Panel open, you can do it so from Windows -> Essential Sound, or switch to the Audio workspace.

The progress panel at the top right will show you tagging is underway, but you can keep working while it runs in the background.

Once the auto tagging is done, the Essential Sound Panel will display the tags that were identified. Any tags that weren’t used will remain greyed out.

Select any clip that has been tagged and the Essential Sound Panel will show you exactly what you need to start working right away. For example, you’ll see EQ for voice on Dialogue tags or Ducking for Music.

You can also select any of the highlighted tags in the Essential Sound Panel, which will then select all the clips belonging to that category!

If you like options, we have them: you’ll also find Auto Tag Audio Types by right clicking on a clip or navigating to the Clip menu.

If we happen to get it wrong, just click on Clear Audio Type in the Essential Sound Panel – and let us know! And the advanced Audio Effects are always available for even more control in Premiere Pro.

Ready to make it fully automatic?

If you’d like Auto Tagging to happen anytime you add an audio clip to your sequence, you can enable Auto-tag audio types in the timeline which can be found in Preferences > Audio.

We’re always looking for ways to reduce clicks and tedious tasks so you can get to the creative work. Our team has been working hard to deliver Auto Tagging and we would love your feedback to make this feature even better while it’s in beta. Please join the conversation and post your comments here.

It will be great if you can take few mins to fill out this feedback form.

Note: Auto-tagging isn't supported for MacOS 11.x versions.

This is probably more of a feature request but as someone who much prefers the Track Mixer I'd love to be able to Tag clips in the Project Panel and have the Timeline Source Patching automatically switch based on the Tag.

eg. All Dialogue route to track 1. SFX 2&3. Music track 4. (customisable in Sequence Settings)

Thanks for the feedback and suggestion!

We actaully had planned to analyse audio files when they are imported in Project Panel. However, we have kept this now for next phase. Hopefully very soon you would be able to see analysed media in Project Panel.

We're keeping a note of your suggestion for timeline source pathching as well. This was very helpful 🙂

What happened to the "Auto-tag audio types in the timeline" option in audio preferences? This seems to be gone now with the latest version and you have to run auto-tagging manually?

The automatic audio tagging is taken off from release build for some fixing. At present user can use Auto Tag option in ESP panel to run the same.

As of Premiere Pro Beta 24.6.0 BETA (b75). Audio Auto tagging is ON by default and completely destroys Premiere usability. Yes, I reset my PPro preferences.

Saying that we can continue working while Auto Audio Tagging is running is laughable. It makes the interface unusable.
