After the upgrading my project from RH2019 14.0.14.002 (.xpj) to RH2020 2020.8.34 (.rhpj), the project file looked good (even though the UI was new). I did not have to fix anything in the project that I knew of. Then I generated the Microsoft HTML Help, using output settings/options that matched the selections in RH2019. There are 3 issues in the HTML output:
Issue 1: A ‘Contents’ tab that is empty. This tab did not exist in the RH2019 HTML output.
Issue 2: Extraneous text ‘Topic index’ appears on the top of each page. The cursor changes to a finger when the mouse is positioned over the text, but nothing is opened when it is clicked. This extra text did not exist in the RH2019 HTML output.
Issue 3: All topics in the Index are showing an error implying no topics are associated with each index. I confirmed in the .rhpj project file that each index is indeed associated with a topic, no changes from the .xpj file.
Did I miss some steps during the upgrade of the project? Was there something I needed to manipulate manually before generating the HTML output?

I won't be opening the Word document, sorry. Can you please post any screenshots directly in the post. Use the Insert Photo button. or paste directly into the text box so that the screenshot is included inline with text. It makes it easier to help when the text and image are displayed on the page at the same time.
I have on thought for #1, but I'll wait to see the screenshot to confirm I'm understanding what you're saying.

You're not having any isues opening other CHMs on your machine? Have you tried generating to your local C:\ drive instead of a OneDrive location? Is the HHActiveX.dll registered on your machine? Does another output preset work ok?

There are no issues opening other CHM files on my machine.
The output path for generated file is in C drive.
I generated the Webhelp output and the Index works (issue #3) which is really good. But the Content is still blank (issue #1). I am going to check the Table of Contents in the .rhpj file.

Yes, but I see from your first shot that it's going to a C:\users\{user_name}\OneDrive-{username}\ folder - that's not really local - try a c:\projects\output\ folder.

I will restate the issues with screenshots and recent updates:
Issue 1: A ‘Contents’ tab that is empty. This tab did not exist in the RH2019 HTML output.
Issue 2: Extraneous text ‘Topic index’ appears on the top of each page. The cursor changes to a finger when the mouse is positioned over the text, but nothing is opened when it is clicked. This extra text did not exist in the RH2019 HTML output. Update: This has been resolved by not selecting anything in Topic Layout in the Layout preset.
Issue 3: All topics in the Index are showing an error implying no topics are associated with each index. I confirmed in the .rhpj project file that each index is indeed associated with a topic, no changes from the .xpj file.

Issue 1 has been resolved. It turns out there was no TOC in the RH2019 project (it was not needed), thus the TOC in RH2020 output is blank. After auto-generating a TOC as a test (which contains all the topics), the Contents tab is displayed with topics.
Issue 3 was also resolved by have a TOC.

Thanks for posting the screenshots. It makes things much easier. 🙂
I'm not aware of any way of hiding the Contents tab only. (The only Window Settings option I know of hides both the contents and index tabs.) Have you checked that the correct window is selected in the Layout section of the preset? Otherwise, the best I can suggest is comparing the Window Settings from the Classic project with the window settings in RH2020.
A web search on the error message suggests if occurs when trying to link to a different chm file. Do you have a merged setup or other product help you try to link to?
