Need *.idx.htm if not using Index in output?

We do not use the Index and Glossary in our documentation Output but I do see *idx. (and *.glo) files in our projects.

I assume this is related to the Output Preset | Content | Include Index checkbox (defaults to checked)?

If we don't have keywords, what is the effect of the checkbox on or off?

If we don't need the output Index/keywords, can I remove the <project>\index\*.idx file on the backend without any adverse effects?

Since we have our doc files in a repository, I just wanted to make sure it was okay to delete the file(s) from the repo. I think the answer is yes but just checking. TIA

Test it in a dummy project or a copy of your main project.

Do not delete. In the preset there is a check box to include the index or not. You don't have to select a glossary.

Ok, thanks.

Since it was a file that wasn't renamed before on backend (no way to rename in RH project to my knowledge), it has an old long name (test6-fstarter-doc-RH2019-Reimaged_rh2019.idx) from all our conversions from RH9 -> 2020.

I guess it would be okay to rename it on the backend (repo file) for future use, if needed.

So all my projects should have the Include Index checkbox off (although it shouldn't make a difference if there are no keywords).

If it's not being included in your output, what's the issue with it living in the project? Who cares?

I was not going to remove the .idx file, per Peter's suggestion. I also wanted to know IF I renamed it on the backend would it have adverse effects? (since it's a file in a repository; currently named test5-flames-doc-RH2019-Reimaged_rh2019.idx after multiple updates from  RH9). I noticed that one of my 4 products doesn't even have a index folder and .idx file.

It doesn't appear to be any problem renaming the .idx file. Thanks.
