Problem With Framless' "In This Topic" Section on ONE Topic

Explorer ,
Jun 25, 2025 Jun 25, 2025

Hello,

Normally, the "In This Topic" section of the Frameless output has links to the H1, H2, H3, and H4 styles, and links to them as such, without using bookmarks. See an example of the filepath/webpage URL that pops up for a normal topic when clicked in the "In This Topic" section.

Now, see below an example of the page that is failing. I believe it is throwing Error 403 Forbiddens to our customers because it is using bookmarks (and incomplete ones, at that) to try and call the section of the page.

How do I fix this?

It is the italics and the link in the header that did this.

Removing the italics from H2 and the outgoing link that was H2 solved the problem.

Seems like it was a RH issue.

Your line - "When generated the links work locally" - is what gave me the impression that it was in fact, working locally. If this is not so, then let's dig into it. Did you state that you had some of these "In This Topic" links that DO work correctly?

Apologies for my frustration, but I feel like nothing I am typing is being communicated properly, as the entire paragraph following the line you quoted explains that while it works technically, the issue that caused the 403 on the network is still there, so the root cause is not fixed, and the file doesn't really work, it can just PASS as working locally.

Every other of the ~300 topics in the file work as intended with "In This Topic". You can actually see an example of that in my original post with the images... When clicked, the "In This Topic" links on 99% of the file work, and jump to that section on the same page, with no change to the URL.

In one, single topic, as pictured, when the links in "In This Topic" are clicked, ROBOHELP adds on the #enter_gl_accoun and #gl_mapping_work to the end of the URL for the topic, and this is what is causing the 403. (And these "#enter_gl_accoun and #gl_mapping_work" are added locally as well.)

Refer to the images in my original post to see the examples.

Your original images, while illustrative, are not very useful for diagnosing what's going on. Have a look at the HTML of one of the working links - show us that. Then look at the non-working ones, show us the HTML for them.
Did you try Peter's suggestion of deleting the "bad" links and redoing them?

I can't view the html for the links, as they are in the container of the "In This Topic", so the don't appear in the html in author view.

If you point me to where the html is stored for the container in the preset themes, I can look.

At one point I re-typed the entire topic file from scratch - and still get the issue. Fully deleted the topic and tried again, same issue.

Assume I have already done the most basic troubleshooting.

Sorry, I was suggesting examining the HTML in the output, not in RH.

With respect, I don't think it is me not understanding.

The issue I saw was In This Topic did not show anything as you can see in the image in the post at https://community.adobe.com/t5/robohelp-discussions/problem-with-framless-quot-in-this-topic-quot-se...

To correct that I showed the problem with the code. The topic has no headings, as you acknowledged. If you fix the code for what should be headings, they then appear and work.

<p><strong><a id="trans_id_gl_account_code_setup"></a>Trans ID</strong><br />

Change that to

<h2><a id="trans_id_gl_account_code_setup"></a>Trans ID</h2>

If I do that in Parts Watch H2 applies to the whole line so used Enter after Menu Path so that the rest is on another line and I applied P to that.

image.png

Next I have worked through that should be a heading and made the same changes. So that the above appears as

image.png

Having done that, I generated an output using your Frameless preset and this is what I see locally.

image.png

All links work without error. Please explain what I am not understanding about this part of the issue.

Show me the link you get when you click any of those "In This Topics". It will look different from mine.

That is my issue. That is what you are not understanding.

And again, I don't think you read what I wrote. I purposefully changed it to <p> inline text. I sent that file incrorectly, I should have sent you the one with <h2> lines. I think I am done on this topic, I can't explain it right, and your troubleshooting is for a totally different error.

For what it is worth, when I copy your code into RH, I get the same thing as my original issue.

Thanks for your time but I am going to just remove the headers from this topic, and make a workaround, like I have for all of my other unsolved issues with this software.

I think your tone is unnecessary given the time I have spent on this issue.

I have sent you a working GL Account Setup file via Smash.

If that doesn't help I suggest you go to Adobe Support. I suggest for this one you need to go to Adobe Support. See https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/enterprise-support.other.html#robohelp for your Adobe Support options. The email link tcssup@adobe.com is recommended as it reaches a team dedicated to Technical Communication Suite products including RoboHelp.

Apologies for my tone, but I have also been working the issue for as long, if not longer.

And quite frankly, being told what I am seeing happen couldn't happen, or has not happened to anyone else, is frustrating and demeaning, especially since you keep repeating the same troubleshooting.

I have emailed adobe techincal support already.

Have a nice day.

I don't see how it is demeaning. It is simply a statement of fact to establish it is something in your project that we haave to troubleshoot.

Does the file I sent work or not? If it does, then my troubleshooting was correct.

Its demeaning to be told that what I am seeing is not correct or possible, but if I have moved past it, whatever.

Is it possible italics in the header killed the links?

I have now other links breaking down all over my file I sent you as they are in italics, whilst in the "In This Topic" section. Check Utility Options - Task Scheduler. "Available Profiles" and "Selected Profiles" adds a suffix at the end of the link.

You'll see some of the headers working in "In This Topic" and try the italic ones. They break.

No your file does not work.

"Removing the italics from H2 and the outgoing link that was H2 solved the problem."

My topic had no italics but you say that didn't work for you. Isn't that contradictory? As you can see from the image, it did work in Parts Watch for me.

Re the other issues, where is your project located, locally or on a network drive or on something like OneDrive?

Ok, good to know that you think you've fixed it up - but did you apply italics inline to the destination header?

I couldn't get your topic to load on my network, Peter.

There are no other issues. Have a good day.

Well it wouldn't work if you couldn't load it. 🙂 All you should need to do is copy the file into Parts Watch and overwrite the existing one. Put it in a different folder to test if you prefere and add it to the TOC temporarily to get it in the build.

Just to add to the confusion, the first heading in the topic, I see I left it as italics and that didn't affect things.

If your project is on a network, try copying it locally. Whilst projects should work on a network, when that was introduced Adobe did caution it might not work well on all networks.

Right, I added in to the test file and uploaded it to a sub-section of our network and the clicked links do work in your file - but they are not italicized, so they would!

When I add a new header (H5) and add it to the 'In This Topic" output, but have italics as part of the style, it works.

Like Jeff just theorized above, the inline italicization hurt the html, because it altered the (H2).

With a new (H5) as a copy of (H2)+italics in the setup, it is all good.

Yes, Ctrl + I on the header.

Doesn't matter now, italics are going away.

Ah - inline styles can be a recipe for trouble - better to edit the CSS and add formatting to it to be applied as a regular style.

This seems like what did it.

I duplicated H2 for another header and included italics in the stylesheet, appreciate your quick help!

For Menu Setup, I notice the code has both em and strong, effectively the same thing. I don't know but wonder if that could be an issue. Just throwing it out there.
