Hello,
I use RoboHelp very seldom. Last time a year ago for a try to make context sensitve HTML-Help for our application. It was RoboHelp7 than and it worked.
Now I just used the freshly installed RoboHelp8 to import a FrameMaker9 document.
Clicking through the first two dialogs (without any inputs) and press finalize at the end strange things happens.
FrameMaker9 starts and closes immediately, and so on.
This would be forever I think if I didn't kill RoboHelp.
I rebooted already and so on. Still the same.
System: Windows XP SP3
Software: TCS 2
RoboHelp8: 8 00 203
FM9: 9.0p237
Do you have quick suggestion I could try?
Thanks
Norbert

Hi Norbert,
Make sure that you have FM open first - just leave it on the "splash screen"; don't open any books or documents in it. Then start up RH and your project. Then when you link or import a FM book or document, it doesn't have to try and launch FM (which, as you've noticed, can be a bit flakey).

Hi Jeff,
Thank you for your suggestion but I tried it and it didn't help.
I started FM9 first. Then I started RoboHelp8 and opened my project.
Both application were running.
I imported the FM document and a small dialog with animation starts.
Then FM9 disappears in the task bar and FM9 starts again. ...
What could I do else?
Thanks
Norbert

That almost sounds like RH isn't recognizing the copy of FM. Were they installed together using the TCS 2.0 installer? You may want to contact Adobe support for some help on this one. I just did a quick test to see if I was getting the same behaviour, but I couldn't reproduce what you're describing.

Thanks Jeff,
I reinstalled RoboHelp from my TSC 2 today.
Before RH8 was a Try Out and I registered it when I got TSC 2.
At least Robohelp and FM9 are in the same program files folder "C:\Programme\Adobe\Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2" now.
But it doesn't work.
I contacted Adobe right now and opened a case.
No, I don't want to reinstall everything

It's the FM document!!!
Importing an empty doc hasn't the described affect but finishes with a complete message.
I need to use this former FM8 Document anyway.
It is simply converted to a FM9 document by FM9.
That's all.
And it worked with RH7.
That's why I never tried another file.
When I filed the Adobe support case one of these standard questions is:
Same results with different file?:
That was a GOOD question!
It seems that FM9 crashes silently.
But it's no problem to open the file by FM9.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

So this behaviour happens if you create a RH8 project and link to a FM8 document/book? But once you open & save the FM8 document/book in FM9, everything behaves itself? Interesting...

Jeff,
Still RH8 is not working with this certain document.
Because it was the only one document I tried to import with RH8 so far (at all), I thought something is wrong with the installation or else ...
Still I need to import this FM document.
FM9 standalone is able to open it.
I'll try to convert it to MIF and import it again in RH8.
Thanks
Norbert
