TOC and image errors

Guest

I have a couple of problems with my printed docs from Robohelp:

In the Word output the TOC comes out as a one-liner saying 'Error, bookmark not defined'. However, if I select PDF output the TOC is fine. Why doesn't the Word output work? Is the PDF produced from the Word document??

Also, in the Word output no images are displayed. However, if I select PDF output, the images display fine. I think I read somewhere that Word 2003 does have a problem with images that are left-aligned. Seeing as left-aligned is the default, and not expressly selected, is there an easy way to get around this? And does, say, centre-aligned really get around this problem?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Only a couple of problems? You're not trying hard enough.

In the Word output, have you tried updating the TOC by right clicking? That might fix it.

On the images you may have seen that on my site? The default is none rather than left aligned but that does result in the images appearing on the left. Double click an image and you will see the current alignment setting. A while since I looked but I think any alignment other than none causes the problem. There's an easy way to check.

Take a look at my site under the RoboHelp menu.

Thanks Peter.

OK, so I should have said that I have a couple of problems SO FAR...!

The TOC was an easy one, should have thought of it myself...thank you.

As for the images, this issue is mentioned on your site, where you said that left and right aligned images did not display in a user's Word 2003 document, but that this error does not affect images that do not have specific alignment set. Mine don't have a specific alignment set but I do have this problem...

And here's more:
In the PDF output, the text wraps too early, so it only covers the first 2/3 of the page. Can this be changed from Robohelp? I know I could change it in the Word output, but while I have no images in that I'm leaning towards the PDF...
Also, I don't get any page numbers at all. Can this be changed from Robohelp?

Thanks again, Emma.

Hi Emma

This is making me wonder if you are using your own template rather than the Style Mapping template supplied. If you are, see my comments in the topics and try that to see if the problems persist.

Sorry but I am just about to leave the office and will not be around until Tuesday. Hopefully someone else can help but if not email me direct to remind me to look at this thread. Click my username to create the email and include the URL of the topic.

Thanks again Peter for your help with this. I was using a template supplied by some overseas colleagues, which I assumed was tried and tested... I switched to the default Style mapping.dot and the Doc output is looking pretty good now.

I did wonder though, if it's possible to retain the internal hypertext links?

Thanks, Emma.

If you take a look at the topic on my site about Printed Documentation, it covers how to customise the Style Mapping template.

It also covers the fact that unfortunately you cannot retain those links. There is a thread which as a macro but there is a catch. The text of the hyperlink must EXACTLY match the bookmark and in practice that is unlikely to be the case. Often the link will be Click Here or the bookmark will be the same text but with underscores. Either way, the string is not exactly the same so the macro will not work. I pointed someone else to the macro recently and they had trouble getting the macro to run but did admit that might be down to them.

There was a fairly recent post with a link to the original thread. If you cannot find it, post back as I can track it from home quite easily.
