Unable to Import Lists from FrameMaker to RoboHelp

New Here ,
Jul 02, 2025 Jul 02, 2025

I have created a multi-level list in FrameMaker and re-created the same css styling in RoboHelp. While importing the FrameMaker file I am unable to map these lists to the css I created in RoboHelp. I tried fixing them after import but they are being read as p styles and not ol. Is there anyway I could navigate through this without having to manually apply an ol style to the RoboHelp document?

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance.

What version of RH? What did you select in the style mapping screen when importing the FM content?

I am using RoboHelp 2022. I left the lists blank during the import. The only mapping styles I saw were paragraph styles and Heading styles.

Better show a screenshot because you should be able to map each FM paragraph and character tag to a corresponding RH style.

Here's what the FM file looks like. It has an Upper Roman at level 1, Decimal at level 2, lower aplha at level 3 and lower roman at level 4. The ol in my RH style sheet has been configured that way.
Here's a screenshot of the css file I am selecting during the import.

Here's the mapping table I see.

I don't see that the RH styles you created to match, appearing in the mapping screen. I believe If you just leave them as "Import Style" you'll get a RH Style created called "FM_whatever_it_was_in_FM" but I think it won't know that it needs to treat it as an ol or li item.
There used to be a section of that mapping screen that allowed you to convert FM lists into HTML lists, but I don't see where it's hiding now.

Is this what you're looking for in FrameMaker?

Yes, that was close to what the Import screen in Classic RH looked like; the HTML publishing engine in FM is RH Classic under the hood. The RH New UI seems to have lost that extra bit unless it's hiding in that "MAP TO HTML TAG" choice.

Yeah I have been working towards accessibility within pdfs and HTML files exported from Adobe FrameMaker. I am using unstructured files and they do a good job at exporting tagged pdfs once the styling is appropriate. However, the Azure blue template used in Responsive HTML is not most accessible one. There is missing alt text for some icons, no skip to main content links, etc while RoboHelp has a much better HTML template. The FM to RH import has been cumbersome for <li> tags, and manually fixing 1000s of pages is not a viable option. Is there a script we could write that translates lists in FM to HTML <ol> in RH?

See if this helps. The logic for Fm is the same as for Word.

Note particularly the heading Lists.

Thanks for sharing this. It is extremely helpful.
This is what I see in the Advanced tab during a FrameMaker import. I don't see the same options as you shared in your word import screenshot, unless I am doing something incorrectly.
