The colors are a little blue and the dog is a little to the left.
There's an insect flying in the upper right.
If you didn't use noise reduction in RAW, it might be a good idea to remove a little noise.
Even a few small adjustments can turn it into a great photo.

I also think you need to reduce the saturation. The grass is just too green - like neon colours!!

There are a few points that can be enhanced in this picture:

  • first, fix the white balance.
  • Mask the dog, lift the shadows a bit, to bring in a bit of structure around the noise. That will also lighten the eyes.
  • Bring down the whites. That will help to kill the highlight clipping. If you did shoot in raw, you will be able to recover some clipped values.
  • Reduce the noise in the background.
  • If you mask the eyes, that will enable you to further enhance these.

My guess: The refusal was either because of the white balance or the background noise.

 

And yes, you can stamp out disturbing highlights: lighter parts in the image, that take away the eye from the principal subject, the dog!
