Non compliant image - "we found that it doesn't meet our needs so we can't accept it"

New contributor here. I uploaded 2 images as an initial test of the process and got the message below. From what I can tell they are saying they dont need my images. Which... I guess means the subject is not needed? For reference it was foggy shot of banana trees in the jungle. Is it that the subject matter is not needed (by whom) or is it that I haven't done the right tags for it or non-complied in some legal sense? It's so vague and I find adobe support _impossible_ to get hold of or interact with. Thanks!!

Without seeing the image, it is hard for anyone in this forum to give specific feedback; but in general terms, the comments from Adobe pretty much explains what "Non Compliance" means.  In the opinion of the moderator, the subject matter of the image was not of the type that Adobe includes in its collection.  It is not a comment on the artistic nor the technical merit of the image but rather of its saleability in terms of Stock Photography.

Don't let it discourage you.  Many of us (myself included) have had an image come back from the moderator as "Non Compliant".  Keep submitting your highest quality images and ask yourself how an advertiser or other commercial user of Stock Images might use it.  If you can't think of any way, then perhaps you should skip sending that image.

Non-compliant is an Adobe definition for an asset that has a problem, but it's not a “Quality Issue”. There are many reasons for an asset to be non-compliant. One can be, that the asset has a border, a signature. Other possibilities are when a release has been asked and the asset would be resent to the moderation team without addressing the concern.

Adobe support won't react to refusals and requests concerning refusals. I suppose that they get hundreds of thousands of such requests. If you want an appreciation of your asset, post it here, and we will have a look at this.

Non-compliant means the file doesn't comply with Stock's submission requirements.  Too small, wrong file type, watermarks, borders, etc..  Did you carefully read the Stock Contributor User Guide before submitting?

Adobe Stock customers expect the highest visual and technical quality for use in commercial projects.  Emphasis on commcercial use.   Read these links before you submit another.

As it says in the message you received from Adobe Stock: "You're welcome to post your image there for constructive feedback from a group of your peers."

However, since you didn't provide the image here, we can't really comment on what about it is non-compliant.

Per this Help Page:

https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/reasons-for-content-rejection.html

Files may be considered noncompliant due to watermarks, inappropriate or irrelevant keywords or titles, or questionable or defamatory content. Also, if you get a reminder to provide or resolve a problem with a release and you resubmit the file without addressing the issue, we’ll reject it as noncompliant.

A banana tree would not need a property release. 😕

More likely the file was too small, lacked sufficient megapixels.

  • Was it shot with a cell phone camera?
  • How many megapixels does your camera have?
  • Did you use your camera's highest quality settings?

Requirements:

  • Image format: JPEG
  • Color space: sRGB
  • Minimum image resolution: 4MP (megapixels)
  • Maximum image resolution: 100MP (megapixels)
  • Maximum file size: 45MB (megabytes)

It may be that the image had an incorrect title "Rainforest fog - banana plants". Or it may well be that it's not sellable commercially. In the past I've looked for foggy stock photos but I guess that doesnt mean its sellable

It would be useful if the moderators said "invalid title" or "invalid tags" or "non commercial subject" just to know

thank you all for your help

In fact they do.  It would have been rejected for Lack of aesthetic or commercial appeal.

Reasons for content rejection.
