Material Mode No Longer Applies to Paint/Fill Layers or Renders Flat, Roughness Doesn't Work

Hello!

I've been deeply enjoying learning Substance Painter and using it to make gorgeous textures for models. It's been extremely useful until today. I'm now experiencing an issue that cripples my work completely as it heavily leverages these features which worked fantastically prior to this. I have made no changes to the application configuration, merely updated it and used my computer casually for internet browsing and gaming. I update Windows, drivers and restart regularly.

Issues:
1. Can't use material mode anymore with certain textures in paint and fill layers.

2. For some of the materials that do apply, they are flat/do not render properly and the majority of the sliders do nothing.

2. Roughness and metalic sliders no longer do anything.

App Version:

7.1.0 through to 7.4.1. See troubleshooting steps for why I tried so many versions.

OS Version:

Windows 10 Pro x64 // Version 21H1 // Build 19043.1466 // Windoes Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0

Hardware:

Intel i7 9700k // nVidia GTX 2080 Super - Most recent drivers (reinstalled during troubleshooting)

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Select either a paint or fill layer.

2. Attempt to set the material mode to any of the 'pure' metals - Aluminum, Cobalt Pure, Iron Pure, etc.
3. Material will instantly clear and not apply, base colour will reset to white.

4. Attempt to set the material to Carbon Fiber.

5. Observe texture turning flat grey with no texture, unaffected by any adjustment to roughness and fiber intensity sliders.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Created backups of all projects.

2. Cold-booted Windows and reinstalled graphics card drivers.

3. Rebooted again.

4. With no other apps open, no rainmeter or wallpaper engine or browser or anything, open a project in substance painter.

5. When it doesn't work, rollback app version and repeat steps 3-5. I rolled back until I hit the version I originally worked on one of my projects with (7.1.0) and the issue still persisted.

Cliffnotes:

I haven't changed any rendering, layer set or display settings on my computer or in the app at all in the past months.

Any assistance or insight would be immensely appreciated as I can no longer use this application for my work and all progress on my projects has halted as a result of these issues.

Please let me know if there's any additional info, recordings etc. I should provide. All relevant files have been attached and I will respond as soon as possible.

Hi,

Thanks for the great breakdown of your issue. This helps a lot to troubleshoot your issue :)!

In the video you share, you are in channel view mode "base colour" this allows you to check the base colour channel independently from any other maps. The shortcut to switch between channel maps is "c". To go back to the material view use

''m", or notice the dropdown menu at the top right of your viewport.

If those are not the issue, please feel free to contact me by email: sainteca@adobe.com directly.

Kind Regards,

Geoffroy SC
