I noticed today that Painter uses a lot more disk space than it used to. Usually it's around 50 %, but now it's 70% even when it's opened on an empty project. I updated to the newest version and no change. I cleaned up temp files, too.
Why is it using so much when there's nothing even loaded yet?
Hi
See this answer given by (then Substance) staff: https://forum.substance3d.com/index.php?topic=27720.0
The % is not showing the used space by Substance Painter in the allowed cache but is showing the overall used space on the disk which you have chosen for cache. Therefore the increase is due to storage of other files/applications on the same disk

Seems like this is an old posy but thought I would ask here...
Is there any kind of guidlines for how big of a cache disk is optinal for painter / desginer?
I understand that obviously more is always going to be better but, I am trying to decie how much of a new m.2 drive to use as a scratch disk. It's a 1TB Samsung 980 Pro.
Initially, I was going to use the whole thing exlusivly as scratch disk but then I started thinking that this might be a waste of a very fast M.2 Drive...
Does anyone have any thoughts...
Cheers

Hi Adam,
Usually, we advise people to have between 20 Gb and 80 Gb available (80 Gb is already a lot). It depends on what type of project you're working on, but I personally think 1TB is overkill.

Hi! I had the same problem but this link just takes me to the general community page. Maybe the original chat was purged. Could you tell me what the solution is??

As Dave mentioned, this isn't really a Painter's issue. The % is not showing the used space by Substance Painter, but the overall used space on the disk which you have chosen for cache. Therefore, if you want to gain more space on your disk, you'll basically have to clean it.
