Scratch disks for Team Projects where team member has multiple clients

Am I missing something re scratch disks?

Advice seems to be to keep this local. Yet, if any of our team or collaborators use this option, then use a MOGRT, it creates the aegraphic file on their local computer and we can't access it.

We looked into the solution of all linking the scratch disks to a shared drive, but one team member works with multiple clients who will be using Team Projects in the future so this doesn't work.

Can we have different scratch disks for different Team Projects or is there a smart way to deal with this problem?

So regarding MOGART's and Team Project.  You want to have your Motion Graphics Template media scratchdisk setting set to a shared location, especially if you have any media associated with the MOGART.

When a user places a MOGART into the timeline, it copies the contents of what is in your essential graphics media library item into the sequence object and if there are any media references in that object, they get copied to the shared storage location specified in your scratchdisk setting. Ideally you want to have all the users pointed to the same scrachdisk location in case anyone else applies a MOGART, all external media gets copied to the same location that everyone has access too.  but, as long as everyone is mapped to that lcoation, you should be fine.

Can you give me a little more explaination?  If they are going to be working with multiple clients can you just invited them to shared storage?  Are they going to be working with different MOGARTS?  Is there a problem setting up a different shared storage location for that user and his clients and specifying the shares storage location for their particular projects?  The motion graphics scratch disk setting is not a global setting but, a per project setting.

Let me know.

Hi,

thanks for your advice.

so the problem occurs when we have one member of our team that is a freelancers and works with a bunch of other clients, including ourselves.

so they all want to work with him on Teams Projects. We can't all share storage because none of us know each other and are all different businesses.

Because the Teams Project settings are for EVERY project in there, it essentially works like a global setting and causes us issues.

I think we'd like to change the scratch disk settings (mainly for motion graphics) to somewhere linked to all the other files related to the project.

Hi there,

Going to start with this one.  This is incorrect.  Every single team project has it's own team project settings.  It is not a global setting.

If you are saying that you would like to keep all your files used by your subcontractor and his clients, that can absolutely done.  They just need to have an agreement location where to keep the files and set the team project settings / scratch disk  / motion graphics settings to point to that location.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

this isn't how it works for me.

I have a team project, let's call it project A, opened it up. Went to file > team project settings and set scratch disk to where all of A's files are.

then, created a new project, let's say B, and changed the team project settings so scratch disks pointed to where B files are.

when I go back into A, all scratch disks are pointing to B. If I change them to A, then go into project B, they've all changed to A.

we can only ever have one set of scratch disks for all our team projects.

what are we doing wrong?

Yikes!

My apologies for the incorrect information.  I have spent some time looking into the issue and have made some proposals for future development in this area in order to improve situations like this.  Ulitmately, it feels like what you need is per project scratch disk settings not the machine based settings.

Unfortunately, there is not an easy solution here.  The one I can think of is while the user is working with MOGARTS is adding an extra step before sharing their changes.  That would involve going into the media management dialog, navigating to the local storage and copy the necessary files to the shared storage that your client is using.  This will change the location of the media for the person that is copying the media and also everyone that is collaborating with him.  It's less the ideal but, should work.

Let me know if this works,
